  • SteeringFiled Jul 18, 2025

Steering assist failure and is not included in the 2018 recall of other General Motors vehicles. The failure is as described in the cars under the recall. GM has no desire to cover this component failure. This is a serious safety issue as it still can be steered but with great effort and could result in a serious wreck. The car has 12,000 miles and garage kept. There are no check engine lights. The battery is good with a full charge. The engine temp is good. The car is currently at the GM dealership and I am being told that it will be my responsibility to pay for it.

The blender door that controls the air flow will close all the way and causes fog build up on the front windshield constantly whether it's cold or hot outside. It also randomly changes from hot to cold during driving. This is a concern due to drivability with the windshield fogging up or the comfortability of driving in extreme conditions ie... Hot, cold, or rainy conditions keeping the temperature in the car to see. Thank you for your time.

  • Power trainFiled Jun 19, 2025

    1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The service technician at the dealership linked the known issue to the torque converter and potentially the transmission system. The suspected faulty components are available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? While driving my 2017 Chevrolet Camaro, the vehicle intermittently and abruptly slows down and shakes/shudders violently, as if riding over rocks. This unexpected and dangerous behavior could easily result in a loss of control, especially at higher speeds or in traffic, putting both myself and other drivers at risk. This issue compromises the safe operation of the vehicle. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. The service technician told me this is a known problem with Chevrolets and stated that they currently have four other vehicles in their service department with the same issue. Given the frequency of this issue (as noted by the dealer) and the sudden onset without warning, I am concerned that this is a broader safety-related defect that warrants investigation. The technician stated multiple times that the issue is likely the torque converter, or in the worst case, a failing transmission. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? No, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer directly, or by police or insurance representatives at this time. I’ve never received any notice from the manufacturer regarding the shudder and recommended fluid flushes. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning lights or messages have appeared. The sudden shuddering and slowing down of the vehicle while driving occurs without any prior warning.

I was driving and my steering all of a sudden got hard to do, my steering wheel was shaking, the steering was difficult to steer and it said on my dash, "electronic steering assist" I was going 60 mph and had to get my car off the road, as I slowed the car got harder to steer, I almost hit another car and ditched it. This is not the first time it's happened on my Camaro, it's happened at least a dozen times in the last 18 months. This is dangerous and I need this corrected! I don't trust it and I am going to hurt myself or someone if you don't fix this. There was a recall before but it did not correct this problem!

Electronic steering assist. I was going down to road and all of a sudden my car was hard to steer and my steering wheel was shaking very hard. I carefully pulled it off the road before I lost control put it in park and shut it off. My steering wheel continued to shake and vibrate and it was also loud like the electronic part didn't shut off with the car. It continued to do this for about 10 minutes with the car off. I started it again and it seemed to be normal. I called the dealer they confirmed the electronic steering assist was an issue and it was recalled for this and the repairs were no good. They said it mlnever do it again but it also might but there was no fix! Well my car's electronic steering assist has done this several times almost causing me to hit another car, ditch, mailbox and pedestrians. It's not safe, it happened again yesterday as a matter of fact, for over a year and I don't trust it! I'm afraid when I'm driving it. I put in a safety complaint more than once, I need this repaired correctly this time before I injured myself or someone else! Thank you, I'll be looking forward to hearing from you! Please help me, I love my Camaro!

When I was driving my steering wheel started shaking I could hear a noise and it was harder to steer. On my dash it showed Drive careful Steering Power Steering assistance system I pulled the car over and turned it off but I could hear the electrical system in the power steering did not shut down and my steering wheel was still shaking. About 45 seconds later it shut down. I went out to my car the following day and started it and the power steering was fine, there was no more shaking or noise in the electrical part of my steering assistance. It was fine. But it doesn't seem safe to me at all. The recall on it was fixed but it seems there is still an issue with this and it could cause someone to get into an accident and hurt or kill someone.

Shudder in the transmission. My camaro shudders between 40 and 50 mph. It had a recall and was taken in for the repairs. It was a transmission fluid flush and a change in the fluid. Something like that. The problem is shudder isn't fixed it was for a while but its back. There's definitely something still wrong with this. Is it causing the car more damage? I believe GM should repair all the recalled vehicles right! This is an issue and a huge nuisance. Shudder problem is still there!

      Incident Dec 15, 2023

    • EngineFiled Mar 14, 2024

There are two primary concerns with this vehicle that, after further investigation, appear to be commonly experienced issues. While driving, the vehicle shudders unexpectedly and intensely, then the issue spontaneously resolves. Upon contacting the dealership, I was informed that this is a recognized problem. The service representative explained that moisture was accumulating in the transmission fluid due to a factory defect, resulting in the sporadic vibration. I was advised that a transmission flush using Mobile One would rectify the problem, but this measure proved ineffective. The dealership is now suggesting that the torque converter may be the cause. Separately, the rear window has detached from the convertible top. Despite my efforts to seal the gap, water still seeps into the vehicle during rainfall.

    • Power train, engineFiled Aug 29, 2023

While idling out of a driveway on Friday, 8/25/23, there was a warning on the dash that stated "low oil pressure, shut off vehicle immediately." I immediately shut the vehicle off within seconds of seeing this warning and towed the vehicle home. I've read that these vehicles-Camaro ZL1 are notorious for failed oil pumps. I have babied this vehicle and do not use it as a daily driver. I only take it out a few times a year and have only 18,000 miles on it. The vehicle is in stock condition and has not been modified which blows my mind that this would even occur on such a well taken care of vehicle that is so expensive and supposed to be the top the line. Of course the dealer was unhelpful due to it being pass what they consider warranty timeframe. I am hopeful that GM will assist in any way possible being that I believe GM installed faulty oil pumps on these expensive vehicles. Also I am a loyal customer to GM. Within the last 5 years, I have purchased 3 brand new Chevys-2017 Camaro ZL1, 2020 Silverado Trailboss, and 2021 Malibu RS.

I was told this was a known issue and it was just related to transmission fluid type. I brought the car in for a transmission flush and the problem seemed to go away. It has returned and is causing safety risk. Besides the annoying grinding noise, I have experienced safety related issues concerning this issue. At the moment you need to accelerate the car pausing and slips gears. This has put me at risk on many occasion since owning the vehicle. My vehicle dies while going 60 MPH or at red lights, creating a dangerous situation in traffic or on the highway. At times when yielding it feels like I've been hit by another vehicle from behind, the transmission does not downshift normally, and the TSB (see attached) proves that General Motors knew about this issue and did not notify customers or recall the vehicle for repairs. I have 2 issues with my vehicle and both issues remain unresolved even after utilizing the power train warranty. My vehicle was taken to the dealership for repairs multiple times, the "check engine" light was on the vehicle, no one checked it, and General Motors did not honor its Power Train Warranty Obligations, "the defects remain unresolved". My vehicle is dangerous to operate, I have tried working with General Motors to arrive at a solution, "But I should not be forced pay additional expense for issues General Motors knew about a, issued TSB's warning dealerships, and made no effort to notify customers. Transmission in the 2016 and up 6 speed manual will pop out of second gear and making horrible grinding noises upon engaging and releasing clutch. I know several people who have had this issue and they told me GM is aware of the issue but ignoring it but it is a safety issue because it leaves a person in neutral in traffic when shifting to second it will go in and pop out. It is defective transmission housing in these expensive cars and mines has been doing it since I have had it and it is definitely the defective transmission housing and there is even a YouTube video on it. This needs to be addressed before Gm gets sued for this. Pandemic has made it even harder to get dealership to get stuff done because personally my car sat at Butler Chevrolet in Macon two months and they still never touched it and told us to come get my vehicle because they had no one to work on it and they had us in a loaner car with improper tags and registration issues and we reported that to local authorities and we are planning to sue them also if they don't settle for the discrimination and hard time they gave us letting my car sit months for no reason just to tell me they had no qualified technician to work on it and they had got my car full of ants and insects. We need this recalled so that anyone with these dangerous transmissions will get it repaired. Don't do your customers like this we are well aware of what's happening here. We pay good money for these cars. Recall these things before it leads to bigger class action issues and I'm a car truck guy and very mechanically inclined and have many friends who have these cars in manual and some of them have had transmission replacement due to defective housing and that solved the issue.

    • Air bags, seat beltsFiled Jul 12, 2022

My air bag light keeps popping up and tells me to service the air bags system and now it does it when nobody is on the seat too, the dealer told me they found the problem and charged me 500 and some dollars and i returned the car the same day they said it was fixed cause it was doing it again , I'm scared it might deploy. I never usually have anybody with me but sometimes my wife comes with me and they say is the seat restraints and i keep getting the run around. Thank you....
