Crankshaft Position Tone Wheel delaminated, mechanic changed it out and not sure what they did with it. Stalled vehicle on uphill passing lane during rush hour traffic, cars where inches from me as they passed at 65-70 mph, I called 911 and had a state trooper come and direct traffic. Joe's Garage inspected my vehicle and did the repair. It was not inspected by anyone besides Joe's Garage to my knowledge. No warning, dashlights came on after engine stalled.

There are these "New" headlights that are LED and White and they are far to bright for oncoming traffic to the point that I see black spots that block the view of the road. To be clear they are not on my vehicle specifically, but a ton of the newer vehicles.

    Incident Aug 11, 2026

  • Power train, engineFiled Aug 2, 2026

While driving at normal and safe highway speeds, without warning (no audible or visual warning from the vehicle information display) my vehicle experienced engine lockout, loss of all non-electric power, and no control over vehicle speed. A few seconds after loss, the information display did show a "check engine light" and that the engine was in "lockout." We (my spouse, young child, and self) were surrounded by multiple commercial semi-trucks and passenger vehicles and had to weave and serve to avoid collisions at highway speeds and get to the shoulder of the highway in a few seconds. The root cause as diagnosed by a Chevrolet Dealership Service Department was failure of the magnetic strip that is press fit to the reluctor (tone) wheel. A 1/2in piece of the magnetic strip was missing and over 10 cracks within the strip itself observed. This magnetic strip is used by the Engine Control Module to measure engine RPMs. The strip's failure caused the EMC to shutdown the engine without warning which is a significant hazard for controlled vehicle movement at highway speeds. My vehicle's engine (LWN) is one of the few GM designs that have the press fit magnetic strip reluctor wheels. The rest use integrated wheels with the crankshaft or traditionally stamped steel with machined teeth. The vehicle and reluctor wheel has not been inspected by GM or any other representatives. I offered to send images to GM for records but they declined.

  • Power trainFiled Jul 21, 2026

I purchased the truck at the end of March 2025. Within a few weeks I was noticing different issues in the transmission. It would occasionally shudder, have jerky or long shifts, would jump gears and lose power. The shudder was random but mostly on the highway, the jerky or long shifts would mostly occur when the egjne was cold and more often in cold weather. The lose of power and jumping gears would occur when towing and when I was in the mountains, once losing power as I was turning onto a major highway. I took the truck in three times to get diagnosed but they couldnt replicate the issue or find a code. I finally decided to pay for a flush with the fluid that was recommended by a TSB. After the flush the issues were then replicated by the service techs. I have an extended warranty. The representative then inspected the truck and found the same issues and approved a transmission replacement. I took the truck in on June 22nd 2026. As of July 21 the dealership is still waiting for the replacement transmission to be shipped from GM.

The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the key was difficult to remove from the ignition. The dealer was contacted and informed that the shift interlock switch failed to recognize that the transmission was shifted to park(P). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but offered no assistance because the vehicle was not under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

  • Electrical system, vehicle speed control, fuel/propulsion systemFiled Jul 6, 2026

My 2018 Chevrolet Colorado diesel has had repeated diesel emissions/DPF-related failures that cause the vehicle to enter reduced-power or limp mode. This is a safety issue because the truck suddenly loses power and cannot accelerate normally. The most serious incident occurred while driving over Santiam Pass in Oregon. The vehicle went into reduced-power/limp mode on a mountain highway, leaving me unable to maintain normal speed or accelerate safely. I lost power needed to pass traffic and had limited ability to respond to road conditions. The problem has happened several times. It has also occurred while I was towing my boat, which left me unable to continue the trip safely and created a hazardous situation because the truck could not maintain normal towing power. The issue appears related to the diesel particulate filter/emissions system and repeated DPF/regen or exhaust aftertreatment problems. I am concerned that a design, calibration, or emissions-system defect is causing sudden power reduction during normal driving and towing. This creates an unreasonable safety risk, especially on mountain passes, two-lane highways, and while towing. I am requesting that NHTSA review this as a potential safety defect involving the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado diesel DPF/emissions system and reduced-engine-power strategy. I am also requesting that this complaint be considered with any similar complaints, recalls, technical service bulletins, or emissions campaigns related to DPF regeneration, particulate matter sensor diagnostics, reduced engine power, or limp mode on the 2.8L Duramax Chevrolet Colorado.

Engine fails it violenty thumps and studders and drops from highway speed with no warning. This is a mfg. defect and also an EXTREME SAFETY CONCERN. The engine studders and thumps and we were almost rear ended by a truck when our truck could not go into gear properly. It is very scary! Dealership confirmed that they have many vehicles with same issue and recommended a Super Flush of transmission but not sure this will correct problem or cause more problems. There is no warning when these incidents occur and the driver has no control to avoid it. It is commonly referred to as the Chevy thump and studder and a known mfg defect in which GM refuses to pay for repairs causing consumers an extreme hardship! This is an ongoing issue affecting thousands of vehicles and someone is going to die! There is no negligence of operator of vehicle, it is a manufacturing defect that affects thousands of GM vehicles and they are doing NOTHING about it except expecting customers to keep incurring cost to try to remedy a repair at our own expense which is unfair! The government needs to force a recall at GM's expense!

Highlighting a materials defect with the rear crankshaft reluctor ring on the 2.8 LWN Duramax, installed in the Army Infantry Squad Vehicle and the 2015-2023 Chevrolet Colorado, from which it is based. When the ring delaminates, due to age, the vehicle engine shuts off and no start, rendered dead lined, as the ECU can no longer "see" the crank position. Requiring the transmission to be removed to rectify the issue.  I was pulling a trailer up a hill on the freeway when my truck down shifted, in an effort to slow down for a bus that was merging unexpectedly and the truck died at speed. The increase in RPM initiated an unplanned, instant disassembly of the ring due to cracking on the material and increased centrifugal force, shutting off the engine without warning, at speed. Again, just dead stick to the shoulder, towing a trailer, on the freeway. That could have been bad... Had truck towed to GM dealer, for a month-long repair.

All the sensors seem to not be functioning correctly. Doesn't tell me the right measurements for the wheels, gas, over heating. Right front passenger door locks/unlocks when it wants. It chokes up when trying to accelerate. Theres a rattling noise that comes from under the car. First time I took it to the dealership, they stated it was a bolt that had come loose on the exhaust pipe. They placed a new one which lasted a year and a half and now its back to making the noise. I took it again to the dealership, this time they claimed they couldn't find anything. My airbag sensor keeps coming on constantly. My fuel sensor claims 116 miles one moments and 5 or 6 minutes later, it says I have 50 miles. My car was over heating and low on Anti-freeze, the car never notified it was over heating.

Saturday July 12, 2025: My truck got an ACTION Required notice: "Exhaust fluid Quality Poor See Owners Manual NOW 100 miles until 65MPH Max speed" I turned around and returned home to get a different vehicle to do what i needed to do. Monday, July 14 My mechanic hooked it up to the vehicle scanner and got the code information: "P11D5: NOx Sensor 2 Exceeded Minimum Learning limit (Symptom 00) - Current DTC, Test failed since DTC Clear, History DTC, Test not passed since power up, warning indicator requested" So we ordered and replaced the Sensor, still the action required message remains... I am now down to "64 miles to 55mph Max Speed" and my dealership is telling me there is nothing more that can be done, unless i want to pay up to 5k for additional repairs that in their experience may NOT fix the issue?? I've googled the issue and MANY MANY people complain of this issue and there appears to be no actual fix for it.... GM tells me that im out of luck and they have no information regarding a fix or remedy for the situation!

The problem started two months ago, with a loss of engine power and a stability track warning on the dashboard. This happened occasionally while driving, often going away on its own by turning off the vehicle. Two weeks ago, I took it to Chevrolet for an inspection. They did a general inspection and said it was a factory defect. Now, the vehicle has the problem constantly, and there are times when it's undriveable. That's a risk for me.

Clunking sound coming from rear end upon normal acceleration. When I take my foot off of the brake pedal, and depress the gas pedal, A loud clunk appears to come from the differential. If I coast first and then depress the gas pedal, it is not as pronounced. When you slow down to make a corner, and resume speed exiting the corner it is also pronounced. It should be noted that I am a safe adult driver (safe driver module installed in truck) and have 35,800 miles. My truck has always been serviced by my Chevrolet dealership; I am an older gentlemen and never drive recklessly. I'd like to think the rear differential should not be making a clunking sound at this point in its history

The issue is with the transmission not shifting as should. The issue is called Shuddering and seems to be a know isuue. If you google search issues with 2018 Chevy Colorado this is the first issue that comes up. This could cause an accident. If gears aren’t shifting properly and I cannot excel as needed I could be rear ended or cause me not to be able merge into traffic if once accelerating it shudders and causes my speed to slow. I think there should be a recall for this issue.

It will say low oil pressure and throw another code of P0700 MIL Request From TCM. This is a common issue that I have researched and would like to know a way forward. I've only had the vehicle for 6 months. Within city limits as long as you don't push the accelerator too much (50mph within 2 minutes) it runs ok until the vehicle comes to a stop. At around the 105k mile range the truck would make a gear whine sound and shudder between gears at around the 50mph range, speeding up or slowing down a bit would fix the issue. By 110k miles the truck was making the gear whine sound at speeds over 10 miles an hour studdering at every gear change. I took it to a mechanic who said there were no TSB's for the truck and suggested doing a trans oil dump and filter replacement. The trans filter was replaced, and 7 quarts Mobil1 LV ATF blue label oil was put into the transmission. The studdering has reduced to just at the 50mph range but the gear whine sound has if anything gotten louder.

In [XXX] I took my truck in for oil change, inspection and 3rd complaint of shaking, and shuddering, lurching at a stop, they told me my transmission was broken, they would have to order the part and their was no ETA on when they would get it. I was told there were NONE in the tri-state area from another dealership. We are a one (1) car family and Jim Trenary Chevy said they don’t give out loaners, therefore we had to rent a car at 370.00 a week. Here it is January 15 and we are STILL renting a car. They finally got the part sometime last week, but WE NEED HELP! We have spent over 5,000 in rental car fees and GM will not reimburse us until we return the rental car, even though we have paid cash every week, and we’re have had to borrow from my husbands future paychecks. WE ARE BROKE. We have to pay the deductible of 500.00 when it is finally fixed, plus, during the snow storm last week someone side swiped my rental car, and I have to give Enterprise 1500.00 when I turn in the car for my deductible from insurance. I read there is a 65 million$ law suit pending to GM for these faulty transmissions, yet they don’t feel responsible to pay our expenses for something that IS THEIR PROBLEM, NOT OURS, but they have made it my problem, and I am shouldering all the financial burden of this, their faulty transmission. WE NEED HELP, We are now broke and now can not afford to pay for the rental, or our repair deductible, or our car payment. We don’t make that kind of money. My husband is the only one that works full time. WE NEED HELP, and no one wants to listen or seems to care. WE ARE BROKE! Thank you for listening. • SteeringFiled Jan 9, 2025

The power steering quits working intermittently. It has always been extremely cold when it happens. So far, it has only happened when the vehicle has been started, then driven. Turning the ignition off, then on, does not fix the problem. So far, it eventually starts working again at a later start up. When it happened before, the problem had resolved itself when I took it to the dealership and they could not determine the cause & simply replaced the battery. Losing power steering is definitely a safety issue if turning a corner, etc., when it goes out. The last time, I drove 45 miles directly to the dealership and they put a code reader on it while it was happening. I'm taking it to them for repair(?) tomorrow. There have not been any inspections to-date. The "service power steering" warning did show up when the vehicle was started.

The Stibilitrack in the truck went out just after 20 minutes of driving in 34 degree rainy weather at 65 mph. Found out that it was the passenger front bearing reluctor had chipped away, which is what the wheel speed sensor reads. Once one those go out, you lose Stibilitrack and ABS. I believe that this is a significant safety issue, and a poorly engineered/designed system. The rear system reads gear which is what should be in the front should have as well, not a "magnetic ring". This should be fixed so that noone gets injured or killed. It's also a waste of consumer money that you have to change out an entire wheel bearing hub assembly to fix the issue. Shame on the company. In the photos, notice that half the black ring (the reluctor) is missing.

    • TiresFiled Jul 12, 2024

At approximately 6:15am while driving at approx 45MPH on a surface street on the right lane, I noticed an alert on the dashboard regarding the PSI of the rear driver side tire had 0 PSI of pressure and simultaneously heard the thudding sounds of a flat tire. I neither heard, nor felt any impact and there were no potholes in that section of road. I pulled over and called for roadside assistance to replace the tire with my spare. I noticed a large tear from the tread nearly all the way down to the bead along the wall of the tire. Tire M+S 255/65 R17 110T. When the tech arrived he noted the tire was new (purchase and installed 42 days earlier). I asked if he's seen this before as I hadn't, and he said he'd only seen it when a driver hit a curb, which I had not. In the early evening I took the tire back to the shop where it was purchased and before even looking at the tire they informed me I "must have hit something" and will just need to purchase a replacement. After they inspected the tire at my insistence, they concluded I must've hit something but I believe it was a case of confirmation bias. I pointed out, and they did not refute, that there was no other damage to the tire, no damage to the rim, and no damage to the vehicle. The subject tire is still in my possession and available for inspection.

The vehicle stuttered upon acceleration between 20mph and 35mph. After the 2018 Chevy Colorado was taken into the Chevy dealership for inspection, the torque converter failed at roughly 76,000 miles. A bad torque converter can potentially cause an accident. It can lead to engine revving issues, sudden speed changes, which can be dangerous while driving. The torque converter failed and left metal shavings in the transmission causing the transmission to need replaced as well. This was diagnosed by the Chevy dealership and has a repair ticket of over thirteen thousand dollars. ( $13,000.00 ) which most people can't afford to absorb. After a quick Google search, this appears to be a common problem. There should be a recall to fix this issue.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? It appears to be a piston failure, as there is compression and diesel in the crankcase. Engine is still in the vehicle but once removed it will be available for inspection if needed. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? We have been complaining to the dealerships (2) since 2021 about a spontaneous outage of the Infotainment system. Each time we were told there was no problem. They claimed to have contacted GM, who said 'no problem' or so we were told. The 'problem' has become a serious safety issue for myself. It starts with a loud constant ‘ticking’ sound that begins after getting seated, even before the key is placed in the ignition and does not stop. The radio rolls a list of station numbers even when nothing is on making it very distracting. Listening to the radio has become impossible. This system malfunction has created a more serious problem for me. At my height, the view of the speedometer reading on the dashboard is blocked by the steering wheel making me dependent on the mph display directly in front of the steering wheel, and is part of the Infotainment system, which keeps going off and I have no way to watch or judge my speed safely. It also interferes when using gps and causes a loss of direction. This is just downright dangerous. As obvious as the problem is, the current dealership requires a $190 diagnostic fee with repair costs to follow. This system was not an option or add-on. We could not break it or wear it out. Now out of warranty GM refuses any responsibility. Why no recall? Many complaints stated on social media.

At the beginning of November I was out shopping, when I returned to my vehicle, the driver side door would not open. Luckily I was fit enough to crawl through from the passenger side. I promptly called the Chevy dealership for an inspection/ repair. I feel this was an emergency situation. I didn’t even want to think about what would happen if I were in a vehicle accident, and couldn’t get out, or, no one could get in. I was able to get an appointment at the dealership for November 16, 2023. My Chevy is always parked in covered garage, there was no warning sign of anything going wrong. They checked it at my appointment, but because they couldn’t open it, they decided to order all the assembly parts, which I had to pay for ahead of time. My next appointment for the repair wasn’t set till January 31, 2024. I never knew how important a functional door would be. Very inconvenient, and dangerous.

The check engine light came on because the coolant fan runs for a while after vehicle is shut off. This ended up being due to a thermostat failure. I did have this repaired in Novemver 2023 but what is interesting is that one of my sisters, who also owns a Chevy Captiva had this same thing repaired earlier in 2023 and now my other sister who owns a Chevy Equinox has this same issue now, 2/5/24, and will look into having it repaired. Is this just a coincidence or is this a defective problem that the manufacturers should address?
