Recalls6

  • Fuel system, dieselStorage, tank assemblyFeb 2, 2023, Campaign 23V047000

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, 3500, and GMC Sierra 2500, 3500 vehicles equipped with a dual fuel tank option. The rear fuel tank may collapse and prevent the fuel pump from transferring fuel to the front tank, resulting in an engine stall.

    Risk

An engine stall increases the risk of a crash.

    Remedy

Dealers will inspect the fuel tank and fuel pump module, replacing them as necessary. Dealers will also add a vent hose to the rear tank assembly. Repairs will be performed free of charge. An interim owner notification letter informing owners of the safety risk was mailed on March 15, 2023. Owner notification letters were mailed June 21, 2023. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N222368030.

  • EquipmentElectrical, engine block heaterJul 1, 2021, Campaign 21V496000

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, 3500 and 2017-2019 GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 vehicles equipped with a Duramax diesel 6.6 liter engine and an optional engine-block heater cord. An electrical short-circuit may occur in the engine-block heater cable or in the terminals that connect the heater cable to the block heater.

    Risk

An electrical short-circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

    Remedy

Dealers will replace engine block heaters and heater cords. Vehicles that have this feature disabled as a remedy to the safety condition will be contacted and offered replacement block heaters and heater cords under a separate customer satisfaction program, free of charge. GM will provide free replacement block heaters and cords under a separate customer satisfaction campaign. For vehicles previously included in recall 19V-328, the heater cord will be replaced and rerouted, free of charge. Interim owner notifications were mailed on August 13, 2021. • EngineApr 25, 2019, Campaign 19V328000

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 4500, 5500 and 6500 vehicles and 2017-2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 vehicles and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 vehicles equipped with Duramax 6.6 liter diesel engines and an optional engine-block heater. The engine block heater cord or the terminals that connect the heater cord to the block heater may short circuit and fail.

    Risk

A short-circuit may damage the engine components and increase the risk of fire.

    Remedy

GM will contact owners, dealers will replace the engine block heater, free of charge. Additionally, in Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 vehicles, dealers will install a new rerouted heater cord. The recall began December 11, 2019. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-586-596-1733. GM's number for this recall is N182206310.

  • Fuel system, gasolineStorage, tank assemblyFeb 7, 2019, Campaign 19V088000

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2016-2018 GMC Sierra 3500 and Chevrolet Silverado 3500 trucks equipped with gasoline engines and dual fuel tanks. The fuel-level sensor in the front tank may stick in a low-level position, allowing the rear tank to overfill the front tank.

    Risk

If the front tank overfills, the excess pressure may cause the front tank to expand and contact the driveshaft, possibly resulting in a hole in the tank. The hole will leak fuel, which in the presence of an ignition source, can increase the risk of a fire.

    Remedy

GM has notified owners, and dealers will replace the rear-tank fuel-pump module, inspect the front tank and, if necessary, replace the front tank, free of charge. The recall began July 30, 2019. GM's number for this recall is N182204190.

  • Seat beltsFront, retractorSep 14, 2017, Campaign 17V567000

General Motors (GM) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 trucks. The front seat belt retractor assemblies were built with the incorrect torsion bar. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies."

    Risk

The seat belt retractors may not perform as intended during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

    Remedy

GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace both front seat belt retractor assemblies, free of charge. The recall began March 24, 2021. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's numbers for this recall are 17368, 17375, and 17376.

  • Air bagsFrontalSep 8, 2016, Campaign 16V651000

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, 3500 HD, Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade ESV vehicles and 2014-2017 Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500, Trax, Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicle, GMC Sierra 1500, Buick Encore, and 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse, Chevrolet Spark EV and SS vehicles. In the affected vehicles, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.

    Risk

A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.

    Remedy

GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on October 13, 2016. The complaint is against Reading Truck Body, LLC regarding safety concerns left unresolved and property damage incurred because of the recall remedy work (NHTSA Campaign Number 18E-021) performed on my 2017 Silverado 3500HD Crew Cab service truck by Reading Truck Body, LLC. In May 2020, I was notified by Reading Truck Body, LLC of a safety recall specific to the aluminum service body on my truck. Following the initial remedy “patch” work done by the company, I was shocked to discover damages to the rear crossmember and compromising cracks in the welding of the body, as well as to the integrity and functionality of the wiring harnesses on my vehicle. Despite assurances that these damages would be addressed, I have been met with delays, unresponsiveness, and ultimately a subpar replacement body that does not meet the quality and craftsmanship of the original. The replacement body not only fails to match the size and finish of the original, but also poses serious safety risks due to missing bolts, faulty wiring harnesses, and overall poor construction. Despite my repeated attempts to seek resolution through the company’s Recall and Warranty departments, I have been met with dismissive treatment, unfounded accusations, and a refusal to address the issues at hand. This has not only caused financial loss and property damage but has also taken a toll on my emotional well-being and business operations. As a concerned customer, I am requesting your support to hold Reading Truck Body, LLC accountable for their actions in this complaint and fully remedy the recall. To do so, I request they replace the service body with one of equal quality, size, and finish as my original. Proper powder coating and meticulous craftsmanship are essential to restoring the value and integrity of my vehicle. I urge you to help rectify these issues promptly and help me ensure Reading Truck Body, LLC addresses the safety concerns outlined in my complaint. Supporting documentation attached

The touchscreen malfunctions intermittently. My vehicle currently has 36,687 miles and this problem has persisted for a while and is getting worse. It has been to the dealer several times and has been reprogrammed. The dealer now is telling me they don’t know what to do. The problem is the touchscreen develops a mind of its own and it starts calling people of the phone contact list or my personal favorite is the radio turns itself on at almost full volume. At other times it tries to contact Onstar when not needed or it mutes the phone call. It’s bad enough that I’m no longer able to use hands free calling in my vehicle. All of these actions either scare you as it is not expected or they require you to take you’re eyes off the road to shut off the radio, unmute the call, or to cancel the call. P.S. To me it does appear to be worse the warmer it is.

This also happens some time at the 3/4 point of the on ramp when cars on the freeway are perpendicular in front of the vehicle. # 2 the same alarm and throttle dropout happen on the freeway randomly and on two lane roads when vehicle are approaching on a 2 line road. I don’t know if break lights are activated, but I have had people honk at me for the deceleration.

WHILE COMING TO A STOP IN TURN LANE, BRAKE ASSIST LIGHT CAME ON. INTERMITTENT ISSUE. AFTER COUPLE DAYS OF EXPERIENCING, I TAKE TRUCK IN TO FIND OUT ABOUT RECALL. THEY PERFORM REPROGRAMMING. DOESN'T FIX ISSUE. TELL ME I HAVE TO PAY DIAGNOSTIC FEE. THY FIND VACUUM PUMP NEEDS REPLACING. THEY COVERED COST UNDER "SPECIAL COVERAGE" BECAUSE THEY KNOW IT'S FAULTY (BUT NOT COVERED ALREADY UNDER RECALL?). THEY SAY IT'S FIXED. I PICK THE TRUCK UP, BRAKE ASSIST LIGHT COMES ON DRIVING OUT THE PARKING LOT. TAKE IT BACK NEXT DAY. THEY TELL ME "PIN" IN THE CONNECTOR IS BROKEN CAUSING "GROUND FAULT." THEY CHARGE ME $500+ TO RUN NEW WIRE IN WIRE HARNESS. SAME CONNECTOR THAT WOULD HAVE TO BE TOUCHED WHILE REPLACING VACUUM PUMP. I PAY TO HAVE PIN FIXED. 3 WEEKS LATER, BRAKE ASSIST LIGHT COMES BACK ON WITH SAME EXACT SYMPTOMS. THIS TIME, THEY TELL ME ECBM NEED TO BE REPLACED. NOT JUST REPROGRAMMED. SOMEHOW, THE PRIOR TIMES, THE ERROR CODE WASN'T STORED. A) ERRORS AREN'T BEING STORED B) THEY'RE COVERING THEIR WARRANTY COST BY CHARGING FOR OTHER ADJACENT PARTS C) BRAKE ASSIST ISSUE GOING ON FOR NEARLY 8 WEEKS NOW UNRESOLVED. THEY NEED TO EXPAND THEIR RECALL TO INCLUDE ADJACENT "CONNECTORS" WHICH THE DEALER ADMITS HARDLY EVER FAIL. ALSO SHOULD INCLUDE VACUUM PUMP NOT JUST AS SPECIAL COVERAGE. ALSO, RECALL SHOULD EXPAND TO REPLACE ECBM BECAUSE APPARENTLY THEY AREN'T STORING FAULT CODES WHEN THEY OCCUR. I READ THIS SAME THING ACROSS MANY FORUM POSTS ONLINE. ALL THE SAME ISSUES. HARD BRAKING, OR SOFT MECHANICAL BRAKE FEEL. I'VE NOW SPENT 1100 DOLLARS ON A PROBLEM THAT FALLS SQUARELY WITHIN THE DESCRIPTION OF THE RECALL. THEY TELL ME THAT "THESE PARTS" AREN'T COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I SAY, EXPAND THE RECALL. RECALL STATES THEY DON'T HAVE TO INCLUDE THIS IN SEC FILINGS. I THINK THEY ARE UNDER REPRESENTING THEIR TRUE COSTS. MY GM CASE #9-5696419690

NOW I'M AT 70,000 MILES AND HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AGAIN. IT SURGES BETWEEN GEARS, SOMETIMES FEELS LIKE I'VE BEEN REAR ENDED AND SOMETIMES SEEMS TO SKIP A GEAR AND BE IN NEUTRAL FOR A FEW SECONDS BEFORE CLUCKING INTO GEAR.

I DID NOT UNDERSTAND IT. WHEN I STOPPED THE LIGHTS WENT OUT. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE WITH THE KEY AND STARTED IT AGAIN. A COUPLE DAYS LATER I REMOTELY STARTED MY VEHICLE BUT WHEN I GOT IN AND TURN THE KEY ON THE LIGHTS DID NOT GO OFF IMMEDIATELY AS THEY NORMALLY DO.

THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS TRUCK HAS NOT BEEN RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING. WHEN STARTING IN THE MORNING IT WILL DO ONE OF THREE THINGS: SURGES AND TRANSMISSION SKIPS, HESITATE AND THEN RACE OR JUMP AHEAD, OR CHUNK AND THUNK LIKE IT REALLY DOESN'T WANT TO GO TO WORK AND SHIFTS HARD WHEN IT DOES. I KEEP ASKING WHEN GM WILL TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND I KEEP GETTING THE RUN AROUND. I HAVE BROUGHT IT IN 3X, HAVE HAD DIAGNOSTICS RUN, TRANSMISSION FLUSHED AND OF COURSE IT HAS NOT HELPED. I AM NOW BRINGING IT BACK TO CHEVY DEALER AND NOW THEY SAY I HAVE TO DO THE NEXT STEP ACCORDING TO GM WHICH IS PUT IN A NEW TORQUE CONVERTER. I BOUGHT A BEAUTIFUL TRUCK THAT RUNS LIKE CRAP AND I AM VERY FRUSTRATED.

THIS PART MAY BE ASSOCIATED WITH A REPROGRAMMING ISSUE THAT WAS ON ANOTHER RECALL. CUSTOMER IS BURDENED WITH REPAIR COSTS AND THE MODULE IS IN HIGH DEMAND AS PART OF A 'NATIONAL RECALL'. I HAVE BEEN WAITING 6 WEEKS FOR THE BACK ORDERED PART. I WAS TOLD IT WAS DELAYED AS RESULT OF A LABOR STRIKE.

MY 2017 SILVERADO IS EXPERIENCING A VERY HARD BRAKE PEDAL AT SLOW SPEEDS. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP IN OCTOBER 2019 FOR THE RECALL PERTAINING TO THIS ISSUE WHERE THEY REPROGRAM THE BRAKING UNIT. I HAD TAKEN IT IN FOR THAT RECALL JUST AS A PREVENTATIVE MEASURE BUT NOW 4 MONTHS LATER I HAVE A VERY HARD BRAKE PEDAL AT SLOW SPEEDS. I HAD NOT HAD A BRAKING ISSUE UNTIL NOW. WHEN IT ACTS UP THE PEDAL IS SO HARD IT MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO STOP THE TRUCK. IT SEEMS TO HAVE A HARD BRAKE PEDAL WHEN I'M GOING SLOW AS IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC OR PARKING THE VEHICLE IN A PARKING LOT WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES OFF AND ON WHILE DOING SO.

THIS COMPLAINT DEALS WITH THE BRAKE RECALL COMING FROM GM. I DID TAKE THE TRUCK TO HAVE THE BRAKE SYSTEM REPROGRAMMED. I HAD NO ISSUES UNTIL AFTER THE REPROGRAMMING OF THE SYSTEM. WHILE IN PARKING LOT GOING LESS THAN 5 MPH. I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT PLACED THE TRUCK INTO REVERSE TO STRAIGHTEN OUT AND DURING THE PROCESS OF PULLING BACK INTO THE PARKING SPACE STRAIGHT. WHEN I WENT TO DEPRESS THE PEDAL IT WAS VERY STIFF, IT ACTUALLY SEEMED AS IF THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PUSHING BACK AT MY FOOT AND THE TRUCK DID NOT STOP WHEN IT WAS EXPECTED TO. LUCKILY, THERE WAS NO CAR IN THE SPACE IN FRONT OF ME ALLOWING FOR THE TRUCK TO COME TO A STOP WITH NO ACCIDENTS OR INCIDENTS. THIS AT OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 73,500 MILES. I DID NOTIFY THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THIS AND THEY ARE REPLACING THE VACUUM BRAKE PUMP FREE OF CHARGE. HOWEVER, IF CIRCUMSTANCES WERE DIFFERENT THIS ISSUE MAY HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT.
