Power train, engine, forward collision avoidanceFiled Oct 13, 2026
I was driving south on Highway 395 with 2 of my friends on our way home from vacation, which is a 2 lane road in the mountains. About 45 miles north of Victorville, CA. As I was accelerating, my vehicle all of a sudden dropped adaptive cruise control, the engine light started blinking, traction control errored, and I got a service ESC message on the dash. I let off the gas a little and everything seemed fine but when I reapplied pressure to the gas pedal the engine started making a loud ticking sound and had barely any propulsion. I had to keep going and was luckily able to find a safe place to pull off the road (which had many blind curves and minimal shoulder space along the highway). Had there not been a safe place to pull over before the engine completely died we could have been hit by any of the many semi trucks traveling on that road. After waiting 2 hours for a tow truck and having the vehicle towed to the Chevrolet dealer in Victorville, I was provided a small SUV rental vehicle to drive the remaining 150 miles home while I left my 2023 Suburban High Country for them to disassemble. When I called the next day they verified there was a Rod Bearing Failure inside the engine and they were submitting to GM for engine replacement. There were NO symptoms before the engine failure happened.

Transmission / Electronic Shifter Control While attempting to operate my 2023 Chevrolet Suburban, the vehicle suddenly suffered a complete transmission shift lockout, displaying a critical driver alert on the dashboard stating: "Conditions Not Correct for Shifting." The vehicle actively blocked and refused engagement into Reverse gear. A diagnostic scan revealed (P0776) transmission solenoid and hydraulic control codes, and the Chevrolet owner's application triggered a "Service Engine/Transmission" warning. This issue is identical to the widespread, known manufacturing defect involving premature wear of the 10-speed transmission control valve body. General Motors has already acknowledged this severe defect by issuing a major safety recall and extended warranty program (Campaign N242454440 / N242454441) due to internal fluid pressure drops that can cause sudden rear-wheel lockup or an abrupt loss of motive power. Safety Hazard: The sudden and unpredictable failure of the electronic shifter and transmission control modules to authorize or maintain gears poses an extreme, unreasonable safety hazard. An unexpected loss of gear engagement—or a sudden command lockout while operating the vehicle in a roadway, intersection, or active traffic pattern—leaves the driver completely unable to maneuver out of harm's way, drastically increasing the risk of a severe rear-end or side-impact collision. Request for Action: Although General Motors currently limits their safety recall and special coverage campaigns for this valve body defect to the 2020–2022 model years, my 2023 model utilizes the exact same transmission architecture and is exhibiting the identical component failure. I am urging the NHTSA to initiate an Engineering Analysis / Recall Query to force General Motors to expand their safety recall parameters to include 2023 VINs before these component failures result in catastrophic highway accidents or injuries.

Tuesday October 6th, 2026, I dropped my 2 children off at school and was driving on the highway to work through heavy traffic when I had a suddenly loud knocking coming from my car, transmission not wanting to shift properly, high rpm’s for extended periods of time. I was able to safely make it to the dealership with about 10 minutes, where it was determined L87 engine failure had occurred. I am sickened that this vehicle is advertised as a family vehicle, knowing the engine failure issues!

2023 Chevrolet Suburban, 6.2L L87, included in Recall 25V-274 and NHTSA EA26005. Recall service was performed XXX at 20,259 miles; the engine passed inspection and received the 0W-40 oil remedy. I noticed that the oil level was low after the dealer had serviced the engine so I topped it off. At the next oil change, at 26,297 miles, I observed a metallic sheen in the drained oil and found significant metal debris in the oil filter installed during the recall service. I captured and retained all the oil removed, 8 quarts were captured so there is no evidence of oil consumption. On XXX, at 26,505 miles, I presented the cut-open filter to the dealer (Burns Chevrolet, [XXX]). It was not examined. The dealer changed the oil and filter and instructed me to drive the vehicle 3,000 miles and return for inspection for metal. I am concerned that the vehicle is at risk of the loss of propulsion described in the recall, and that the recall remedy has not prevented ongoing bearing wear. A GM Customer Assistance case is open. The debris accumulated over approximately 6,000 miles on the recall-service oil fill. The dealer technician reported no visible metal in the oil drained on XXX, but did not examine either filter. I am retaining, sealed, the uncut filter the dealer removed on XXX, and the cut filter from the recall-service fill, as evidence. While driving, the digital driver/instrument display behind the steering wheel went completely black, but the engine continued running and the radio remained on. The vehicle was stopped, turned off and restarted and the display screen came back on. This didn't effect the drivability of the vehicle. In some of the research I've found the cause might be an instrument-cluster software problem or an "Instrument Cluster Missing Graphics Processor". The recommended remedy would be to replace the instrument cluster. There is also one instance where the dealer reportedly determined that the instrument panel control module needed to be reset versus repaired which would not permanently resolve the issue.

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban. While the contact’s husband was driving 70-75 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond, but the RPMs became elevated. The driver shifted transmission into neutral(N), coasted to the side of the road, and the vehicle stalled. A message to “Start Vehicle” was displayed; however, while on the side of the road, the vehicle failed to turn off. The driver was able to shift into park(P) and had the vehicle towed to the dealer, where the transmission failed to shift out of park(P). The dealer determined that a spark plug was burned. The spark plug was replaced; however, before returning the vehicle, the new spark plug was also burned. The dealer then diagnosed the vehicle with engine failur. The dealer informed the manufacturer of the safety issue. The failure mileage was approximately 42,600.

Dear Chevrolet Customer Assistance, I am writing to formally report a serious safety incident involving my 2023 Chevrolet Suburban and to request an investigation by General Motors. My vehicle unexpectedly locked while the key fob was still inside the vehicle. Most concerning, my baby was also inside the vehicle at the time. I was unable to regain access to the Suburban, and because my baby was trapped inside, I had no reasonable option but to break a window to gain immediate access to her. This was an extremely serious and frightening situation. My primary concern is understanding how a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban equipped with a keyless entry system was able to lock while the key fob remained inside the vehicle. I am requesting that Chevrolet/General Motors: 1. Open a formal safety case regarding this incident. 2. Investigate why the vehicle locked despite the key fob being inside. 3. Have the vehicle’s keyless entry, passive locking system, key-detection components, software, and related systems inspected for a malfunction. 4. Determine whether there are any applicable recalls, technical service bulletins, software updates, or previously reported incidents involving similar circumstances. 5. Reimburse me for the cost of the broken window and related repairs, as the window had to be broken solely because immediate emergency access to my baby was necessary. I do not want this incident documented simply as a customer accidentally locking keys inside a vehicle. The key fob was inside the Suburban when the vehicle locked, and an infant was trapped inside as a result. I am asking that this be documented and investigated specifically as a potential vehicle safety or key-detection system issue. I can provide my VIN, photographs of the damage, repair invoices, key fob information, dealership inspection records, and any other documentation necessary for your investigation. Please provide me with a GM case number and written confirmation that this incident has been form

The vehicle experienced an initial incident of significant engine power loss while traveling at highway speeds approximately two weeks prior to the eventual complete engine failure. During that incident, the vehicle unexpectedly lost engine power while traveling at speeds exceeding 65 mph. On Thursday, September 3, 2026, a second incident occurred within approximately one-half mile of leaving my residence. The vehicle again experienced a significant loss of engine power. I had already notified the dealership of the this occurrence and had a scheduled appointment for repairs the following day. I was attempting to drive the vehicle to the dealership as planned. Shortly after leaving my neighborhood, I stopped at a nearby gas station after the vehicle displayed a "Low Oil Pressure" warning on the dashboard. I also subsequently received an email notification from OnStar identifying diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0016. The vehicle was then driven again and subsequently experienced a catastrophic and complete loss of engine power while traveling at highway speeds above 65 mph. Following this failure, the engine would not turn over or crank and the vehicle could not be restarted. The sequence of events is significant because the vehicle had previously experienced engine power loss at highway speeds, the dealership had been notified of the initial incident, and the vehicle was being driven to the dealership for its scheduled repair appointment when the second power-loss event occurred. The vehicle subsequently suffered complete engine failure. I am documenting these events, including the dates, circumstances, dashboard warning, OnStar diagnostic notification, and sequence of failures, for purposes of establishing the history of the vehicle's mechanical problem and the circumstances leading to the catastrophic engine failure.

Complete engine failure on 2023 Chevrolet Suburban 6.2L. On October 31, 2024 while on the interstate. The truck shut off twice with no warning. I was able to make it to the side of the interstate twice to restart. The truck was taken to Serpentini Chevrolet and they stated no issues were found and send the vehicle back on the road. On December 13,2024 while on a state route, speed limit 55, 12,231 miles the Suburban abruptly slowed down and violently started to shake and knock. I pulled off to the side of the state route and waited approx 2 hours for the vehicle to be towed. The vehicle was towed to Serpentini Chevrolet and they stated the engine was blown and needed replaced. The vehicle was at the dealership until February 13, 2025 when the engine was replaced. The recall was released in April 2025 at which time the vehicle was taken in for the oil change “repair”. The truck now has 20,200 miles and is lacking power and starting to shake when accelerating from 0-50mph. I will be scheduling additional service in the coming week. While going through the blown engine, GM stopped responding to emails, did not compensate for months of payments I incurred while they had the vehicle and they are still selling unsafe vehicle.

My 2023 Chevrolet Suburban equipped with the 3.0L Duramax diesel engine (LM2) has experienced a recurring engine oil leak involving the rear main seal/lower timing cover area. The vehicle has required repeated dealer repairs for substantially the same oil-leak condition, including major engine-related disassembly, but the leak has returned after repair. This is a safety concern because failure of the rear main seal or lower timing cover sealing system can result in loss of engine oil while the vehicle is being operated. A significant oil loss could potentially cause loss of oil pressure, engine damage or engine failure and resulting loss of propulsion while driving. Leaking engine oil also has the potential to contact hot engine or exhaust components, creating an additional safety concern. The problem has been inspected and confirmed by authorized GM dealerships and documented on multiple repair orders. This does not appear to be an isolated occurrence on this vehicle because substantially the same engine oil leak has required repair more than once. GM has previously issued service information, including Bulletin PIP5795, concerning rear main oil leaks on 3.0L LM2 Duramax engines where the rear main oil seal may move or become severely shifted out of position in the timing chain lower cover. I am concerned that repeated repair of this condition may not adequately address the underlying cause and that the oil leak could recur while the vehicle is being driven. I am requesting that NHTSA review complaints and repair data involving rear main seal/lower timing cover oil leaks on GM 3.0L Duramax-equipped vehicles to determine whether a broader safety-related defect exists.

We purchased a 2023 Chevy Suburban in January of 2026. In May the vehicle shut off on me at a stop light. The check engine light flashed after I was able to restart it. I took it to the dealer and they said they "couldn't recreate the issue" even though there was an engine misfire code on all cylinders. They told me to come pick it up and bring it back if I had further issues. The second time this happened I had issues getting the vehicle started. This was June 2026 Once I finally got it started and was driving all the service lights started going off and the check engine light started flashing. I took it to a different chevy dealer and was told the same thing. This time I had 23 different service codes that showed up. Including the engine misfire code. So we picked it up and continued to drive it. On July 10th we were towing a 7k lb camper home when we lost all power. Thankfully we weren't driving fast and we're able to stop. This left us stranded at a busy intersection for 2 hours. The car would not go out of neutral. Had we been going 70 on an interstate we could have very seriously been hurt. The car had to be towed back to the dealership where we were told the engine locked up and needed to be replaced. My husband and I had our [XXX] child in the backseat with us. This was a family car that we purchased and told twice that they couldn't find anything wrong with it. The vehicle has been at the dealership waiting on a motor since July 11th. The sunroof drains continue to fail. I’ve had multiple occasions where the car has had drains back up or be disconnected.. This is a safety issue because it creates mold as water falls in the headliner and then the cabin. It also creates rust, particularly behind the dashboard. That’s not rust proof. Despite being under warranty, the dealers are useless and helping address the issue because it’s la design flaw. The multiple water intrusions also affect the electronics in the vehicle., potentially disabling critical features like airbags and safety systems.

Electrical system, engineFiled Jun 15, 2026
The engine of this car has been under recall for multiple issues during the time we have owned it. The most recent issue that was experienced was total engine failure and electrical malfunction while driving on a busy street near train tracks. The vehicle was making a loud banging sound moments before this occurred. I wasn't even given time to get to a safe spot to investigate the issue. When it shut down, a quick message flashed across the dash board--stating ability to shift had been lost (or something to that effect)--the vehicle then flipped into neutral and immediately lost power. My safety was put at great risk due to the fact that the entire vehicle shut down moments after I crossed over a very busy railway track. The vehicle had to be towed to a nearby Chevrolet dealership where it has been confirmed there was total engine failure as well as blown main electrical fuse.

My 2023 Chevrolet Suburban Premier is covered under GM recall 25V-274 for the 6.2L L87 engine defect (loss of propulsion from connecting rod and crankshaft failure). In XXX, the dealer notified me my vehicle required a full engine replacement under this recall. Wareing Sheridan Chevrolet in [XXX] replaced the engine, and the vehicle was out of service approximately 12 to 14 days. Approximately 6,000 miles later, on XXX, the replacement engine failed while I was driving on the interstate highway near Billings, Montana. There were no warning indicators of any kind until I suddenly lost power. Only at the moment power was lost did the check engine light come on and a low oil pressure warning appear. I was barely able to get the vehicle off the interstate before it died. I had my family in the vehicle, and losing power on the interstate with no warning created a serious risk of a crash. The vehicle had to be towed to Denny Menholt Chevrolet in Billings, MT. On June 13, 2026, the dealer confirmed the vehicle needs a second complete engine replacement under the same recall. This is the second L87 engine failure and second full engine replacement on this vehicle under recall 25V-274. No crash or injuries occurred. I have an open case with GM (#XXX). I purchased a 2023 Suburban on March 6, 2026 with 52,980 miles. I drove it home to my house and parked it. On March 7, 2026 about 6pm, I started the vehicle and heard a loud engine noise. I called the dealership and let them know about the noise. On March 9, 2026 I towed it back to the dealership. The vehicle has been in service since then and was told it needs an engine. Metal spun threw the engine block and has to replaced. I just purchased this vehicle and drove it one day.

Regarding a catastrophic engine failure involving my 2023 Chevrolet Suburban equipped with the 6.2L L87 engine. There is an active GM service bulletin that we never received from either Crabtree or GM. Vehicle details: • Purchased in North Carolina in 2024 • Approximately 4,000 miles at purchase (used, still under factory warranty) • Currently at approximately 60,000 miles • Within the 5yr/60k powertrain warranty at the time of failure Incident details: On Friday 2/20, the engine experienced a confirmed catastrophic failure while my wife was driving on the interstate at highway speed. The vehicle abruptly lost power, creating a significant safety hazard. She was able to maneuver to safety, but the situation presented a serious risk of injury. GM has since towed the vehicle and confirmed catastrophic engine failure. We have been provided a rental vehicle - not a comparable one either (they refuse to address that also). Given the safety exposure and warranty status, I am evaluating potential potential claims including breach of warranty, implied warranty of merchantability, and any product liability considerations. I am also interested in understanding leverage for buyback, diminished value, risk of serious injury to my wife, or extended warranty resolution. I have preserved documentation, service records, and a written account of the incident.

Seat beltsFiled Feb 27, 2026
The drivers side, female end, of the seatbelt comes undone when cold. This is reproduced every single time it is cold for approximately 5 minutes of driving until the inside of the vehicle warms up. This happens with both primary divers of the vehicle. We took it to the dealership we bought it from but because there is not a current recall and they cannot reproduce the issue since our current temperature is in the 40s, they won’t replace it under warranty. No warning systems go on when this happens while driving.

Sun Roof has leaked. The Sun roof leaked a considerable amount of water and it came through the head liner around the ceiling mounted control panel as well as the back of the car. This is the second time it has happened and I have been told it is not covered under warranty. Through online blogs and forums I have found that this is a common issue with 2021 and newer tahoes and suburbans. And that is a reoccurring problem that is commonly not fixed properly by the dealers This causes a safety and health issue as well as an unacceptable vehicle defect. 1.) From a safety standpoint, if I am driving down the highway and a large amount of water starts pouring out of the headliner on the driver it causes a major distraction that could lead to high speed accident. 2.) From a health issue, regular water leaks could lead to vehicle mold and water damage. I have children, if they become susceptible to the mold it could cause health issues for me or my children. 3.) The water that pours out of the ceiling lands on the dash electronics which could lead to more vehicle issues by damaging electronic controls. It is my opinion that this is a major vehicle defect and something should be done by the manufacturer to correct it. I have made a complaint to the Chevy Customer service under reference #890 780 85

My 2023 Chevy Suburban High Country had the L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion (Related field action: See Special Coverage N252494003) recall performed on it and completed on August 15, 2025. Higher viscosity oil was put in. This was at approximately 55,000 miles. While driving on the highway at 60mph on December 29, 2025 the vehicle twice lost propulsion and indicated the vehicle needed to be restarted. I took it to a Chevy dealer to have looked at in early January 2026 and they could find no issues or codes. On January 31, 2026 while driving on the hwy at 75 miles per hour the vehicle started to rattle and it lost propulsion. The DIC indicatd "System Failure" and I had to pull off to the shoulder of the highway. The DIC repeated "System Failure" and that the vehicle needed to be restarted. The vehicle would not restart when attempting to press the brake and restart. This happened on a busy interstate and the safety and well being of my family inside was put at a risk that could have been avoided, likely if the engine would have been replaced in August of 2025. The temperature outside was in the single digits and there was no air pushing through the vehicle while we waited for a tow truck and another family member to pick us up off the highway. There was no warning lights or messages prior to this happening. The vehicle is currenlty undergoing diagnostic testing at a Chevy dealership. This happened at 69,000 miles. This is highly concerning that this could happen in a 95,000 dollar vehicle. This is absolutely a saftey risk. I'm lucky I was able to merge on the interstate in a vehicle that could not maintain the speed with traffic and pull off to the shoulder.

Following extensive research & uncovering the fact that there are several class action lawsuits underway calling out GM for not issuing a formal recall when they should have from the start, we've been forced to personally absorb significant costs tied to replacing our 2023 Suburban's Valve Body around the mid-December FY'25 timeframe. It's also been publicly stated that GM opted to "not release" an official recall for the 1500 series Suburban when they've already issued an official recall for the larger 2500 series equivalent, according to our local dealership. We've already filed an official "full credit request" with GM's complaints organization, but we're sensing our voice will likely remain unaddressed at this point unless proven otherwise. Additionally, this is the second purchased Suburban with a YukonXL, being our original purchase from many years back, but in short, we're going to transition away from GM vehicles long-term, assuming our "full credit request" remains ignored. In short & our local dealership totally agrees with our current stance, critical transmission components should not be failing at this point & especially with a newer Fy'23 Suburban, when behind the scenes GM opts to "not recall" saving the company north of 600M from many months back. Just terrible from so many perspectives, as disgruntled end-clients like myself suffer from forced irresponsible cost requirements.

The code that originally came up was P0300 a (Engine Misfire). I had this truck for one year and it says my fuel injector went bad so I’m getting the whole Tune Up done. I have the My Chevrolet app connected to my vehicle and it’s saying: the Engine/Transmission system needs service and the Emissions system! Mind you I e only had this vehicle for one year i bought it in February 2024 and it’s a 2023! I bought it from Lindsay Ford in Wheaton MD. I feel as though all this should not be happening in a matter of one year l believe I was sold a defective truck.

OEM Running boards, non powered. It is available for inspection. The running boards are slippery evetime they are wet. Does not matter what shoes you have. I have slipped 4 times since owned the vehicle and even broke the interior panel of my driver side door in 2023 which lead to a$500 repair bill. My wife and I both slipped today (1/26/26) and bruised pretty bad. Kids have also slipped in the past. No, it was not inspected or reproduced but dealer did say its a common problem they see with the OEM running boards. No, it was not inspected by the dealer. No warning lamps since it is a non powered part.
