Subject: Formal Safety Complaint—Cracked 22-Inch Polished Aluminum Wheels on 2024 Chevrolet Suburban To Whom It May Concern: I am submitting a formal complaint concerning repeated failures of the original 22-inch polished aluminum wheels installed on my 2024 Chevrolet Suburban, which I purchased new. Two wheels have cracked without any known impact, collision, road-hazard event, or other incident that would reasonably explain the damage. The first wheel cracked at approximately 25,000 miles. Tire pressure began dropping unexpectedly and ultimately fell to zero. The wheel was inspected and replaced by a dealership in Cincinnati. A second wheel later cracked and caused another sudden loss of tire pressure without warning. During that incident, I experienced difficulty maintaining steering control, creating a serious risk of a crash and injury. The second wheel was inspected and replaced by Tire Discounters in Lebanon, Ohio. The recurrence of substantially similar failures raises concern that the wheels may contain a material, manufacturing, or design defect. Aluminum wheels should not crack during normal operation in the absence of impact damage. A sudden loss of tire pressure, especially while the vehicle is moving, presents an unacceptable safety risk to the vehicle’s occupants and other road users. I respectfully request that Chevrolet and General Motors promptly: 1. Investigate these wheel failures as a potential safety-related defect; 2. Arrange for a thorough inspection of all remaining wheels on the vehicle; 3. Replace any affected wheels at no cost to me and review reimbursement for related expenses already incurred; 4. Confirm whether similar complaints, technical service bulletins, special coverage programs, or recalls have been identified; and 5. Provide a written response explaining the findings and proposed corrective action. I can provide the vehicle identification number, purchase documentation, mileage records, photographs, inspection findings, r

While driving down a two-lane blacktop road at 70 MPH (the posted speed limit) the engine, a 6.2 L L87 with a little over 15,000 miles, grenaded and seized. At the time I recall a warning message that said something like "engine shutdown". Fortunately the electronic transmission self-shifted into neutral so the car could coast to a stop. Had it not done this a loss of control would have been likely at this speed. The vehicle was towed to the local Chevrolet dealer in Bozeman, Montana (Resseler Chevrolet) where it was confirmed the next day the engine had seized. The dealer is currently replacing the seized engine with a replacement long block. The dealership currently has the engine and is planning to ship it back to Chevrolet or GM for tear down and inspection. They are also replacing the radiator and all coolant hoses as a precaution. Two weeks prior I took the vehicle to the same Chevrolet dealer complaining that on one day the engine shut off four times within 1 mile. Each time it displayed a warning message that said "restart engine", which it did each time. I also complained about a ticking noise that began in the engine at 12,000 mile. The dealer reported that the engine sounded fine and that they could not reproduce the engine shutting off on its own. This engine was NOT part of the large L87 recall. At time of purchase I was told by the selling dealer (Kendall Chevrolet in Maryville, Washington) and the local dealer (Resseler) that the engine was assembled after assembly line procedure were put in place to avoid the same issues as the recall engine. I've been and engineer for 46 years. The problem with this engine is not the assembly line, it is the never before used tight moving component tolerances and the water thin oil demanded by the manufacturer. The design shortcomings are compounded by systems such as cylinder deactivation and auto stop that significantly acceleration engine component wear.

The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 MPH, the steering wheel locked at an angle, and the message "Power Steering Not Active" was displayed, causing the vehicle to strike a curb. The steering column, control arm, radiator, fender, and wheel were significantly damaged due to the incident. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the power steering module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and an investigation was completed. The failure mileage was 58,277.

EngineFiled May 12, 2026
On May 2, 2026, while the vehicle was in operation, the engine suddenly shut off without warning. At the time of failure, the instrument panel remained illuminated; however, the vehicle would not restart. In an effort to resolve the issue, the battery was replaced, but this did not correct the problem. The vehicle was then towed to a local Chevrolet dealership for further inspection and diagnosis. Following their assessment, I was informed by the dealership’s service department that the engine had seized and that metal debris was present in the engine oil, indicating significant internal engine failure. I was further advised that a replacement engine has been ordered. At no point prior to this incident were there any warning indicators, abnormal noises, or performance issues that would have suggested an impending engine failure. The sudden nature of this incident raises concerns regarding the cause of failure and whether it may be related to a defect or internal mechanical issue.

The glass of the front movable sun roof shattered. The glass shattered while driving on hwy 89 in Wyoming with no traffic or no identifiable reason for the event. While some glass was saved most of it blew out when is shattered. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by the dealer. The dealer blames a flying rock or other object impacting the glass even though no vehicles or source of incident impact was perceived. No one was interested in taking a report. There was a build up of pressure inside the vehicle prior to the blow out of the glass which caused the drivers ear's to pop when the sun roof blew. The remaining glass was visibly pushed upwards away from the vehicle. A picture is available.

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while towing a trailer, the message "Trailer Brakes Disconnected" was displayed. Due to the failure, the trailer brakes locked up and the trailer came to an abrupt and rough stop. Upon investigation, the contact discovered Technical Service Bulletin: 23-NA-149; which was related to the solar panel battery charger or generator on the trailer. The trailer battery was fully charged and had a higher charge than the battery needed and could back feed into the trailer brake power module and cause it to shut down. The dealer was notified of the failure, and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not under recall. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. The sound became significantly louder while driving. The contact stated that while driving at highway speeds and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle felt like the rear wheels would lock up. The contact stated that the rear wheels locked while reversing, causing the vehicle to jerk abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with rear axle failure. The dealer determined that the rear axle needed to be replaced. The private warranty company declined to cover the repair unless the rear axle had completely failed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and declined to cover the repair because the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The contact had previously reported the failure to the dealer, who could not duplicate the failure while the vehicle was still covered under warranty. Additionally, the contact stated that upon engaging the air recirculation, the contact smelled fumes. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000.

Sudden power loss on highway. Engine would not respond. We were fortunate to have been able to pull over to the side of the road but in an unsafe merging area. Vehicle restarted after multiple attempts, but engine would not exceed 3000 rpm causing unsafe speed on highway. Engine died again causing total power loss. I was able to coast down the hill to safely park out of the way of traffic. Tow truck was needed. Vehicle was towed to dealer where it was purchased. After inspection, the engine was confirmed to have failed. The dealer advised for engine replacement as part of the L87 recall. This engine was previously inspected less than 10,000 miles prior as part of the same recall, and the higher-weight oil had been used since per the manufacturer's recommendation. However the inspected engine appears to have failed regardless. This sudden loss of power happened about two weeks prior, with the driver able to pull to safety and restart. It was dismissed as a fluke since it did not occur for the next two weeks.

I took my 2024 Chevrolet Suburban to get repairs associated with GM safety recall N252494000 - L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion. My vehicle "passed" the test, so the "correction" employed by GM is that "vehicles that pass inspection will be provided a higher viscosity oil, which will also require a new oil fill cap, an oil filer replacement, and an owner's manual insert." All of this was done free of charge. However, the owner's manual insert states that "For future engine oil changes, use SAE OW 40" oil. This updated owner's manual insert, which is provided as a solution to GM's recall of a faulty connecting road and/or crankshaft, causes the future costs of oil changes to increase from $160.00 to $230.00. Assuming quarterly oil changes, this will increase the cost of operating this vehicle to increase by $2,800 over an estimated 10 year lifespan. This increase should be covered by GM. GM sent me a letter that states, "If your dealer fails or is unable to remedy this defect without charge, or within a reasonable amount of time, you may submit a written complaint to the Administrator, NHTSA." By passing on the cost of the increase in oil change for all future oil changes, GM failed to remedy this defect without charge. I submit this claim because GM filed to remedy this defect without charge. Please see highlighted portions of attached documents in support.

I managed to coast into a parking lot. The engine light was on. I turned the vehicle off and waited about 5 minutes and turned it back on, The engine light remained. The first time this happened I was going down the road and the vehicle started sputtering, the emergency brake light came on the dash and the car shut off. It has a rough idle when you start it. I am terrified of this car. I have grandbabies in the car with me, Had i been on the highway either time i would have caused a terrible accident. If I stop and turn of the vehicle and restart the rpm's will be better but the truck still seems to have a difficult time increasing in rpm's and accelerating gears. It's incredibly dangerous as if I'm driving at a substantial speed on the highway or freeway and it drops rmp's rapidly I'm likely to be in an accident which could be detrimental. Air bags, structure, engineFiled Jun 11, 2025
Since purchasing the vehicle on September 27, 2024, I have experienced a series of troubling issues that raise serious concerns about its design, manufacturing, and overall safety, including: Airbag system malfunction: My airbags were nonfunctional for over a month. Tire-related issues: Required full replacement of the initial set of tires. Persistent alignment problems Bluetooth audio problems: Poor quality and connectivity with multiple phones, resolved only after a service visit in May 2025. Defective seat frame: Rear passenger-side bucket seat required full replacement. Defective paint: Blisters and bubbles in the rear quarter panel paint. Fuel module failure: Most concerning, the vehicle abruptly stopped on the road last week and required towing. I was later told the cause was a fuel module failure. Each of these issues is concerning on its own. Taken together, they represent a troubling pattern of unreliability and potential risk to my safety and that of others on the road. They’ve also resulted in a significant loss of my time. This vehicle has spent over a month at the dealership for service—astounding for a truck that’s only eight months old. These are the kinds of delays and disruptions I specifically try to avoid by purchasing and maintaining new Chevrolet vehicles.

I costed to the shoulder and tried to reset with no luck. We called Onstar and had it towed to Hendrick or Monroe NC. We found out that this was an engine failure and the long block had to be replaced. This left us stranded without a car to drive to our cruise —GM told me I could buy plane tickets and they’ve never denied reimbursement. Unfortunately they denied it once I submitted all the receipts. It been a horrible experience with no help from GM.

On[XXX], at approximately [XXX], while driving on [XXX] at a speed of 80 mph, my vehicle suddenly lost all power and shut down without warning. I had no choice but to steer to the shoulder lane amidst high-speed traffic on the busy interstate. After coming to a stop, the car would not restart, leaving me stranded in a highly precarious situation. As the weather conditions worsened, turning into a blizzard, and darkness set in, I contacted GM Roadside Assistance for help. I was informed that assistance would take at least an hour to arrive. Feeling unsafe, I called local law enforcement. The officers arrived and parked behind my vehicle with their flashers on to ensure approaching drivers would slow down and avoid an accident. This was an extremely distressing and frightening experience. After an hour, GM Roadside Assistance called back and informed me they were unable to find an operator to tow the vehicle. By this time, the officers on-site had contacted a local tow company for my safety. The tow company advised me that I would need to pay in cash for their services, which I accepted due to the urgency of the situation. They towed the vehicle from [XXX] to their yard in Douglas, Wyoming. I then arranged for a ride to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where I had to report to work that night. This incident not only jeopardized my safety but also left me with significant unexpected expenses and inconvenience, all due to what I believe is a manufacturing defect in the vehicle. A new vehicle should not experience such catastrophic failure, and the delayed response from GM Roadside Assistance compounded the problem. I respectfully request the following actions 1. The dealer stated the 6.2L engine had a bearing failure. When driving on 12-24-24 to a family event the dash lights all lit up and the car shut off. I was barely able to put the Suburban into neutral to pull off to the side of the road. Once stopped, the Suburban wouldn't start or even go into neutral so I could push it further off the side. This is extremely dangerous. My entire family was in the car on a very busy day (Xmas eve) without the ability to move the car in any way. Even when the tow truck driver arrived, he stated there isn't a way to force it into neutral. I also first learned about the 6.2L bearing issue from him. His 2023 Suburban was in the shop for the exact same issue. My 2024 Suburban has less than 13,000 miles on it before the failure!

While driving in the left lane of a two lane highway at highway speed of approx 65-70 mph the engine shut down. The instrument cluster said to “Press button to start engine”. I had no power. There was no throttle response. Luckily I was on a slight decline and was able to safely change lanes by coasting into the right lane then the shoulder. I was able to put the vehicle into park. The vehicle did restart. I took the vehicle to a Chevrolet dealer and was immediately told that there was an internal engine failure. I could have been rear ended or worse. This is a very serious issue. Upon doing some research, I found that the same thing has happened to many other people. This is very dangerous. Apparently this is becoming a major issue for the GM 6.2l eco tec engine. I hope that the next person this happens to doesn’t freak out and have an accident. If this happens to the wrong person, someone is going to lose their life.
