General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Chevrolet Traverse and 2021-2022 Buick Enclave vehicles. The harness connector to the left or right side roof rail air bag may have incompatible electrical terminals, which could prevent the air bags from deploying in a crash.

    Risk

Roof rail air bags that do not deploy as intended increase the risk of injury in a crash.

    Remedy

Dealers will replace the harness connector to the roof rail air bags, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 29, 2022. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N212352140.

The transmission failed after picking up my son from daycare. I pulled on to the main road heading home. It started to speed up and suddenly started jerking back and forth causing cars behind me to slam on their brakes and then the car would not go over 15 mph. A few minutes later the check engine light came on and this is the first time it has come on. Called a tow truck and had it towed to a gm dealership they reproduced the issue and told me the transmission is bad and I need a new one because it is a sealed system it cannot be rebuilt. They quoted me $9900 for a new one and also said the transmission is on backorder with no idea when they will be available. They did not say what the labor charge was. This is outrageous for a vehicle that is less than 5 years old.

electrical, drivetrain, powertrain. While driving the vehicle a message popped up on the speedometer saying service battery chargeing system and battery saver mode. the is the second time that those messages have come up in the four years of ownership with the first time being in 2024. The second issue we have had with this vehicle was injectors going bad and causing a bad misfire making driveability rough. We have gone through three O2 sensors in the past 4 years. we have replaced the alternator and are fixing to replace it again. the driverside axle seal leaked. transmission slips bad. there is a current random misfire. Back in may of 2025 we were driving to Florida from missouri and had to slam on the brakes and when we released the brake the car refused to move and when i pressed the gas harder there was a loud bang like we had been hit but it was like the brakes had locked up completely. It shudders bad when starting. Two months ago the steering locked up while driving. Vehicle has been inspected several times by the dealer we bought it from but driving this vehicle is becoming my families worst nightmare.

The contact stated that the windshield washer fluid pump had become inoperable, and the windshield washer fluid failed to spray onto the front windshield and the rear windshield. During the failure the windshields could not be properly cleaned while driving. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, and the contact was informed that the washer fluid pump had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact was informed that the part to repair the vehicle was on back order. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 56,000.

After turning the car on, engaging reverse, and then retuning back to park (driver stepped out of vehicle once in park) the vehicle reversed 60 feet on its on through a parking lot with 2 children inside of the car (disengaged from park on its own while vehicle was running). The vehicle was ultimately stopped by a tree with damage to the tailgate and rear. The gear shift selector remained in park for the entire incident. A claim was filed with GM and the Traverse was initially labeled as a “intermittent failure” in my May 2026 claim interview. Post GM inspection, the vehicle is now deemed “operational” (no repairs from GM) and being returned to my family as of July 2026.

    • Power train, engineFiled May 6, 2026

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while driving in first gear, the vehicle would independently enter limp mode as the check engine light would appear on the instrument panel. Due to the vehicle failing to accelerate above first gear, the contact would be forced to restart the vehicle as the vehicle would then resume normal operation. The contact stated that the vehicle had been taken to the dealer nine times due to the failure. The dealer had failed to duplicate the failure; however, when using a code reader, a message for the transmission control module would appear. Despite the dealer replacing both the transmission control module and wire harness attached to the module, the failure had persisted. The dealer had requested a traveling engineer to inspect the vehicle where unknown repairs were performed on the vehicle. The vehicle did appear to be repaired after the initial repair; however, the failure recently returned. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000

    • Power trainFiled Apr 15, 2026

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while attempting to turn off the vehicle, the alarm sounded and the message, "Shift to Park," was displayed even though the gear shifter was in park. The contact shifted from park into several driving positions before the vehicle recognized that the transmission was in park, and the vehicle was turned off. The failure had become a persistent failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the gear shifter had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 122,000.

      Incident Apr 8, 2026

    • Power train, electrical systemFiled Apr 1, 2026

Shift to Park. Unable to turn the car off even though the car is in park. This was previously fixed in 10/24 and started up in 10/25 a few days after the 1yr warranty. I reached out to the dealership that repaired it in 2024 and was told that I would have to pay for the service as the part is not covered under the powertrain warranty. I reached out to GM for assistance and that was a lost cause. I was told that the repairs will only last 1 to 2 yrs, so this appears that it will be a temporary fix. My car has about 55000 miles on it. To know that I may possibly have to continue to get this fixed, I feel like this should be considered a lemon and they should refund me for the cost of the vehicle or give me another car. GM knows that the Shift to Park is an ongoing issue with this year, make, model and have failed to issue a recall.

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH on the highway, the low oil warning light illuminated. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure and opened a case, and stated that fifty percent of the cost of repair would be covered. The approximate failure mileage was 84,000.

    • Engine, fuel/propulsion systemFiled Mar 23, 2026

I am reporting a dangerous failure of the fuel supply control module in my vehicle, which caused the engine to stall and cut off during acceleration while driving in heavy, 45-60 mph traffic. While I was able to have the issue diagnosed and repaired by Newman’s Auto—with an invoice available—I believe this 44,000-mile vehicle experienced a premature failure. Given that this component is currently recalled on similar Chevrolet SUVs and trucks, I believe this model should be included in the recall. • Electrical systemFiled Feb 14, 2026

The vehicle started throwing an error stating 'shift to park' after putting the vehicle in park. When attempting to turn the vehicle off it will not allow it, just keeping up the shift to park message on the dash. I am then unable to lock the doors. This could kill my battery as the engine eventually turns off but the lights stay on. Furthermore, leaving the vehicle unlocked and on for some time puts it at risk of being stolen. It does not happen every time I turn the vehicle off. I have tried shifting it back and forth between drive and park and sometimes that corrects the issue. I just got this vehicle about a week ago and it has not yet been diagnosed or seen as this problem just began last night. There were no other issues experienced yet. Googling it, seems to be a common issue with many Traverse owners, stating that it is typically the transmission shift control module. I do plan on following up with the dealership asap.

    • Unknown or otherFiled Jan 14, 2026

I just purchased the vehicle there was an open recall that was never taken care of. I took it to the dealership and the front exhaust pipe is cracked and leaking which was the original recall

      Incident Jan 14, 2026

    • EngineFiled Jan 6, 2026

Both the front AND REAR exhaust pipes are cracked and broken with holes in them where the SINGLE bracket that secures both pipes mounts. There was special coverage issued to repair, but the special coverage only identifies the front pipe. The rear pipe is essentially dangling from the upstream catalytic converter, which also appears to be cracked due to the same underlying issue. If the vehicle doors are open, exhaust fumes will enter, rather than be expelled to the rear of vehicle. This pipe can essentially finish cracking and fall off into the roadway. The check engine light did not come on until these components broke. The problem is vast across many of these vehicles as reported to me by an owner of an independent service center as well as technicians who work at certified GM dealerships. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. I currently still drive it, but its just a matter of time before a heaping hunk of metal pipe falls onto the roadway and causes an accident. The rear pipe is almost completely separated from the remaining exhaust pipe between the upstream and downstream catalytic converters at the bracket location before the flex pipe.

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while parking the vehicle, an error message stating that the vehicle was not in park was displayed. In addition, the contact stated that the computer did not recognize that the gear shifter had been shifted into park(P). The contact stated that it was a known failure with similar vehicles. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a failed gear shift control unit. The contact was informed that the gear shift control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 22,168.

      Incident Dec 6, 2025

    • Unknown or otherFiled Dec 23, 2025

On Friday, 12/19/2025, I started by car and noticed that the infotainment display was taking longer than usual to boot up. It cycled through the Chevrolet splash screen 2 times until it ended on the "Update Failed. Returned to dealer." Due to this message on the infotainment display, there is no sound coming out of the speakers which results: *unable to hear turn signals when they are activated, *the front camera is no longer working, *unable to hear the parking assist when in reverse, *OnStar is no longer working, and *unable to hear front collision warnings. The display just cycles this message. I called around to several dealerships to see if I could get in that day to get this corrected. I was able to take it to a Chevrolet dealership on Tuesday, 12/23/2025, who diagnosed the problem as software corruption due to the over-the-air update and will result in a new radio needing to be installed. I then called Chevrolet Customer Service Center who stated that since my vehicle is outside of the bumper-to-bumper warranty, regardless of their over-the-air update causing the problem, I would have to pay for the repair. I asked, how do I know that this won't happen again with the new radio? They suggested that I have the dealership turn off the automatic over-the-air updates.

When I shift my car into park and turn off the engine, an error message appears-"Shift to Park." Although the dashboard displays that the vehicle is in park, the radio and lights remain active & I am unable to turn off my car. To resolve this issue, I must restart the car and cycle through park, reverse, or neutral before attempting to shift back into park again. It often takes multiple attempts to eliminate the error message. My Traverse is currently at the dealership, where I have been informed that it needs a new shifter, which is not covered under warranty. These vehicle is garage kept, one owner & has less than 32k miles on it- I have also discovered that this issue is recognized by GM, with numerous complaints documented on this site alone. Given that this is a widespread problem affecting many owners, it seems unreasonable for us to shoulder the expense of this repair.

When shifting my vehicle into Park, the message “Shift to Park” appears even though the gear lever is already in the Park position. The vehicle does not always recognize that it is in Park, which prevents it from fully shutting off and poses a potential rollaway or battery drain risk. Often the radio/bluetooth components remain on. This issue creates a safety concern when parking, especially on inclines or in public areas and I live on a dangerous steep driveway. The problem was confirmed by Montgomery Chevrolet on October 28, 2024, after I paid $175 for a diagnostic that is not covered under warranty. They verified the “Shift to Park” malfunction and provided a repair estimate of $1,796.55. The vehicle and component are available for inspection upon request with videos and photos of the "shift to park" error log. This began appearing shortly before the dealer visit and has continued since. Video available upon request* Unable to upload

Vehicle will frequently state "Shift To Park" on dashboard when shifter is set to Park. Restarting engine and resetting to Park does not help. Horn and interior bells sound upon exiting the vehicle due to Shift To Park error. Safety issue concern, because I'm use to seeing the error message and ignore it, and what would happen if the shifter was not actually in Park. I took to GMC dealership. The issue as noted by mechanic at dealership is "position switch internally shorting out intermittently in shifter control assembly. Replaced shifter control assembly." I was charged $543.44 for parts and labor. My understanding is that certain Traverse years are known for this problem. I would like a refund from the manufacturer knowing this is a known manufacturer problem.

The contact stated that after reversing out of the driveway and shifting into drive(D), the accelerator pedal was depressed the vehicle made an abnormal sound, as if the transmission and engine had detached and fell onto the road. The contact had only driven forward approximately 30-feet when the rear wheels locked up. The contact shifted to park(P) and waited for a while. When the vehicle was shifted into drive(D), the contact was unable to accelerate above 10 MPH. The vehicle was driven in LIMP Mode to the local dealer. The contact stated that the check engine warning illuminated close by the dealer. The contact stated that the dealer was located approximately 1.9 miles away from the residence. The contact stated that the dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and assigned a case advisor to the contact. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Received "shift to park message" after car was placed in park mode; was unable to turn the car off. Had to restart and take the gear in and out of park multiple times before I was able to turn the car off. The sensors did not recognize that the car was in park. Took the car to the Chevy dealership. They discovered an internal fault that caused the vehicle to not recognize that it was in park. Chevy replaced the gearshift assembly and jumper harness. The "shift to park" error message is no longer present (for now). I'm concerned this may happen again; my cost to repair was $651.24. This repair should be covered under a vehicle recall as it is an ongoing issue with some Chevrolet vehicles, along with the persistent squeaky brakes. This shift to park issue is not covered if the bumper-to-bumper warranty has expired. It may, however, be covered if you have an extended warranty. There are multiple vehicles reported with this issue as seen in the online forums. Some models were previously recalled or repair cost was covered by Chevy.

Check engine light came on. Chevy traverse lost power and would not shift past 45 miles an hour. Once parked a bad bucking when put into reverse and loss of power or the vehicle would not move and revved as if out of gear despite being put into gear. Had vehicle towed to Hubert Vester Chevrolet in Wilson NC where we purchased it with no remedy because symptoms would not replicate for the two weeks they had the vehicle. We drove it for a week, and the same thing happened again. Bucking started when slowing down. Towed to Phelps Chevrolet Greenville NC with same results of no repair or diagnoses after they kept it for three weeks. Neither dealership would provide a loaner vehicle. Vehicle is under extended drivetrain and bumper to bumper 100,000-mile warranties with no remedy for the issue. We are afraid to drive the vehicle but making payments on it. My personal code reader purchased from Wal-Mart scanned a P2715 Pressure control solenoid D stuck on and P0700 transmission control system. However, the dealerships would not accept the information for repairing the vehicle saying they were showing as past check engine light stored codes. Invoices for both unresolved incidents are attached. Vester applied for changing the transmission fluid with our warranty but unsure if it was completed.
