The driver's side air bag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

The valves within the ABS Hydraulic Control Units (HCU) may react with brake fluids containing specific corrosion preventative additives. This reaction may cause the valves to not close properly.

The affected floor mats may move and possibly interfere with the accelerator pedal.

The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, she noticed that the steering wheel was locked, making it difficult to control the vehicle. As a result of losing control of the vehicle, the contact's daughter was struck on the driver's side by another vehicle, after which the driver's side air bags failed to deploy. The passenger-side air bags did deploy. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard, where it remained. No warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. A police report was filed. The contact's daughter was taken to the Emergency Room and treated for injuries to her head, left shoulder, and left leg. The other driver was also transported to the Emergency Room and treated for undisclosed injuries. The manufacturer was notified and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline.
