Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling specific 2003 Acura 3.2CL, 2013-2016 ILX, 2013-2014 ILX Hybrid, 2003-2006 MDX, 2007-2016 RDX, 2002-2003 3.2TL, 2004-2006, and 2009-2014 TL, 2010-2013 ZDX and 2001-2007 and 2009 Honda Accord, 2001-2005 Civic, 2003-2005 Civic Hybrid, 2001-2005 Civic GX NGV, 2002-2007 and 2010-2011 CR-V, 2003-2011 Element, 2007 Fit, 2002-2004 Odyssey, 2003-2008 Pilot, and 2006-2014 Ridgeline vehicles. The affected vehicles received a replacement driver air bag inflator as part of a previous Takata inflator recall remedy or a replacement driver air bag module containing the same inflator type as a service part. Due to a manufacturing error, in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver frontal air bag, these inflators may explode.

The affected vehicles are equipped with a dual-stage driver frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion and other factors, including manufacturing variability that, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture.

AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS

On XXX while traveling at approximately 50 mph on a smooth highway, both front airbags and the seatbelt pretensioners spontaneously deployed and exploded without warning. There was absolutely no collision, crash, road debris, or pothole impact. There were no vehichles in front or behind me. The vehicle continued smoothly for 100 yards post-blast. The vehicle's exterior and undercarriage remain completely undamaged. COMPONENTS FAILED: The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) electronic control unit failed catastrophically. The explosive blast shattered the windshield, locked the seatbelt assemblies, and inflicted immediate blast-induced acoustic trauma/severe tinnitus. The vehicle is completely disabled but safely secured on private property and is available for immediate physical inspection. MANUFACTURER AND DEALER CONFIRMATION: The manufacturer (American Honda Corporate) has officially cross-referenced this vehicle and confirmed that the safety remedy for the known SRS control unit defect (NHTSA Recall Campaign 13V-412) was previously performed on XXX, at an authorized dealer (Billy Wood Honda in [XXX]). This incident represents a catastrophic failure of a certified manufacturer safety remedy. American Honda Corporate has opened a high-priority Level 1 Product Liability Investigation under Corporate Case Number XXX. RISK AND WARNING SYMPTOMS: Driver safety was put at extreme risk due to an unprovoked explosive detonation at highway speeds, causing temporary blindness from white smoke and sudden hearing deprivation. VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving 45 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. The contact pulled over to the right side of the roadway, turned off the vehicle for approximately 30-minutes before restarting the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to her residence. The failure had occurred several times. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 284,000.

TIRES

The contact owned a 2004 Honda Odyssey equipped with Michelin CrossClimate 2 Tires, Tire Size 255/60R112VXL, DOT Number: Not Available. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at an unknown speed and turning a corner, the front driver's side tire suddenly blew out, causing the vehicle to roll a few times, then flip, crashing into a tree where it came to a stop. The air bags did deploy. The driver sustained a fracture to the neck, and he was declared deceased on the scene. The vehicle was towed and totaled. A police report was filed. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

I’ve seen several recalls on the transmission for Honda odysseys that are 2004 just like mine . My transmission has been horrible for the entire time Ive had it. When accelerating, it jumps super hard from 1st into 2nd gear. switching from first gear to 2nd. Sometimes I have to manually switch it into D3 just to get the vehicle moving again. I’ve found this to be pretty scary at times . I’ve searched and searched to see if I had a recall for the transmission and I haven’t but It did show the SRS system recall which I did have serviced. I’m making this complaint because I feel like my vehicle has been affected and overlooked

ENGINE

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving at approximately 55 MPH, the engine revved up high however, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. Additionally, the contact stated that there was a burning odor coming from the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact pulled over and waited for a while before restarting the vehicle and driving to the residence. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic nor a local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.

AIR BAGS

As the result of a recall, my driver airbag inflator was replaced. Soon afterwards, my horn started honking when hitting, bumps or moving the steering wheel. I returned the vehicle to the dealership, and they said they adjusted something that seem to help for a short period of time. However, the problem returned upon taking the car to another dealership. I found that the automotive repairman stated that the wrong part for the inflator had been installed. I returned it to the original dealership and they refused to address the problem. The dealer is persons Honda at 15525 Frederick Rd., Rockville, MD 20855.

The contact stated while driving 20 MPH the driver-side front air bag deploy on its own without any impact, causing the contact to drive off the road and struck a tree and causing damages to the front end of the vehicle. No one was injured. No police report was filed. The vehicle was not towed, but the contact was able to drive the vehicle home. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 168,000.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power without warning. The contact self-diagnosed the vehicle with an ignition switch failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 308,000.

SEAT BELTS

SRS light is on, diagnostic test done at Honda Dealer ($149.00), drivers seat belt buckle was at fault, Dealer ordered part and to install at no cost to me. Light would come on for a week or two maybe longer when vehicle was started. Not sure if my airbags were compromised with this light On. Why was I charged for test, I feel this test cost should also be paid by Honda
