Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2021, 2023 Acura TLX, 2019-2024 RDX, 2017-2020, 2022-2026 MDX, 2017-2021, 2023, 2025 Honda Ridgeline, 2017-2022 Pilot, 2019-2021 Passport, 2018-2026 Odyssey, 2019-2022 Insight, 2019-2021 HR-V, 2018-2020 Fit, 2020-2022 CR-V Hybrid, 2017-2022 CR-V, 2017-2018, 2021 Civic Type R, 2017-2021 Civic hatchback, 2016-2020 Civic coupe, 2016-2022 Civic, 2017-2022 Accord Hybrid, and 2016-2022 Accord vehicles. The front passenger seat weight sensor may crack and short circuit, which can cause the air bags to deploy unintentionally during a crash.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE

The vehicle's Auto Idle Stop (AIS) system failed to restart the engine after engaging at a complete stop. The affected components are the engine, starter motor, and AIS control software. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. On XXX, at approximately 7:43 PM, the AIS system engaged while I was stopped at the intersection of [XXX]. Upon releasing the brake pedal, the engine failed to restart. The vehicle became fully immobilized in an active left-turn lane with traffic behind me. I was required to shift to Park and manually depress the Start button multiple times to restore power. Multiple vehicles behind me began sounding their horns. A minor child was a passenger in the vehicle. This is not an isolated incident. The vehicle has been presented to Howdy Honda, in Austin, Texas, for the same defect on three to four prior occasions. On the most recent prior visit, the dealer replaced the starter motor — the specific remedy prescribed by Honda Technical Service Bulletins 23-008 and 23-009. The vehicle was returned to me as repaired. The failure recurred the same day. The defect has been confirmed and repair attempted by the authorized Honda dealership. The manufacturer has been on notice of this defect class-wide since at least 2018. Prior to and during failure events, the instrument cluster displays a Red Exclamation Mark warning light and/or a "Brake System" warning light. These warnings first appeared in conjunction with the initial AIS failure events and recur with each subsequent incident. While the idle stop system was active, the vehicle turned off while stopped at a red light as expected. After the light turned green, the vehicle did not restart and turned all the way off and then attempted to reboot. I had to push the on button to turn the car back on. The first three attempts to start the vehicle resulted in clicking sounds like a dead battery. This has reoccurred at least 4 times in the past couple weeks and has only occurred while restarting with idle-stop and not when starting for the first time. I’m concerned I will get rear ended while I have my little kids if it doesn’t restart.

My 2024 Honda Odyssey has repeatedly failed to restart after the Auto Idle Stop system shuts the engine off while stopped at a red light or in traffic. Normally, the engine should automatically restart when I release the brake, but on several occasions the vehicle completely shut down and I had to manually restart it. During one incident, the vehicle would not restart for approximately 1–2 minutes despite repeated attempts. This left the vehicle disabled in traffic and created a serious safety concern. The problem has occurred multiple times.

My vehicle has approximately 12,000 miles and on 9/7/26 and 9/11/26, my vehicle would not restart at a light with the auto shut off. I had 4 small children with me on 9/7/26 and had several cars behind me aggressively honking. I could not get the car to restart for several seconds. I was finally able to turn the car completely off and get it to restart. The instance on 9/11/26 was equally as startling. After talking to a friend who has the same Honda Odyssey, she said her van was actually at the dealer with the exact same problem. The Honda dealership told her this is a “known issue” and she is having her starter replaced. I am so upset that Honda has failed to ensure the safety of a van that families rely on. I will be taking our van to the dealer next week.

When in traffic at a stop, my car goes into idle mode, and when I take my foot off the brake to switch to the accelerator the car shuts down. It takes a few tries to get the car started back up again. This has been happening intermittently for over a year.

The idle stop system was on while I was driving my car. At the stop light, it activated. When the light turned green and I took my foot off the gas, the car shut off. I had to press the ignition start button several times to get the car to start again.

The vehicle suffered an Auto Idle Stop failure at a red light. The engine shut down normally, but failed to automatically restart when the brake was released. There were no dashboard warning lights, and I was forced to manually shift the vehicle into Park to restart the engine in active traffic.

My 2024 Honda Odyssey Elite has had two recent incidents of car going into idle and won't start up. The more serious one happened while I was stopped waiting to make a left turn. The Auto Idle Stop system shut the engine off when I was waiting on. Y left turn engine did not restart. I was stuck in the roadway for about two minutes before I was able to start the vehicle again. The red battery warning light was on while the engine would not restart. A few days prior during a trip from [XXX] to [XXX] the vehicle also would not start after I had been sitting with the engine off and accessories running at a gas station. After turning off the A/C fan, rear entertainment system, and unplugging my phone, the vehicle eventually started. I took the vehicle to a Honda dealer (Honda of [XXX]) They inspected it but said they could not reproduce the problem, so no repair was made. And they refuse to use my warranty to fix it. The vehicle is available for further inspection. My main safety concern is that the Auto Idle Stop system can shut the engine off in traffic and then fail to restart, leaving the vehicle disabled in an intersection like what happened to me.
