  • Electrical system, fuel/propulsion systemFiled Oct 8, 2026

I was traveling northbound on [XXX], just before [XXX], at approximately 35 mph on dry asphalt in my 2015 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel just after refilling the fuel tank with 13.999 gal. of diesel fuel. While the vehicle was being driven both fuel-tank retention straps broke. The fuel tank dropped from its retained position and was observed resting on the asphalt beneath the vehicle. The vehicle lost all power causing a near-miss incident while attempting to navigate out of traffic. After coming to a stop, the vehicle was moved to the side of the road and parked just east of [XXX] on [XXX]. Passenger and eyewitness [XXX] experienced the entire incident and also observed the fuel tank beneath the vehicle and the broken straps. The vehicle could crank but would not start; and the fuel lines and electrical supply were both damaged. The check-engine light illuminated, as well as the fuel low and fuel sensor fail messages occurred during and after the incident. AAA towed the vehicle directly to Byers Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram on XXX. Dealer repair order XXX was opened XXX, and the vehicle was physically inspected on XXX. The dealer documented: “VERIFIED CUSTOMER CONCERN. CHECKED AND FOUND REAR FUEL TANK STRAP MOUNT IS RUSTED OUT. NOTHING TO HOLD TANK IN VEHICLE.” The dealer further documented that the vehicle “NEEDS FRAME OR REPAIRED FOR REAR FUEL TANK STRAP.” No recall repairs could be made; therefore the disabled vehicle was returned. The concern is that failure of the fuel-tank retention system caused the fuel tank to drop onto the roadway while the vehicle was moving. The dealer subsequently found that the rear fuel-tank strap mounting area was rusted out and that there was “NOTHING TO HOLD TANK IN VEHICLE.” I request that NHTSA investigate whether corrosion at the fuel-tank strap/frame attachment area can progress to the point that the fuel tank can no longer be safely retained. ABS MODULE failure. Computer chip on back order. Dangerous

    Incident Jan 8, 2026

  • Service brakesFiled Oct 6, 2026

The ABS Control Module (p/n: 68228991AD) failing and not able to locate any new replacement parts. The failed module results in loss of traction control, electronic slip protection, loss of cruise control, as well as issues with my 4wd, and most importantly no Anti-Lock brakes. Occasionally i will get a no start issue stating "CAN BUS FAIL" resulting from the ABS module. If I unplug the module and re-seat it, the can-bus issue goes away. Luckily it has not resulted in a crash, however I am scared it will as I drive 115 miles daily for work. I have reached out to ATE (the manufacturer) they were not able to assist in the issue. According to Dodge that particular ABS module has been in "engineering review/discontinued" since 2020. Which would make the truck have only been 6 years old at the time it happened. I have been searching for a replacement for almost 3.5 years now but they do not seem to exist.

Part unavailability: The required replacement module (68228991AD) or 68228991AE , is discontinued or in backorder for years and is currently in an "engineering hold" status at the factory. Dealerships are unable to order or procure the part. There is no estimated time of availability, no interim repair procedure, and no software workaround. The vehicle is non-operable and poses a heightened risk of loss of control during emergency braking. I have incurred [rental car / towing / transportation] costs of approximately $5000.00. Request: I request that this complaint be logged as a safety concern under NHTSA's jurisdiction. I request that Stellantis provide a replacement ABS module at no cost to the owner, or issue a formal service action / safety recall for this defect. I request reimbursement for documented out-of-pocket expenses incurred while the vehicle is in an unsafe condition. I request a written response with a resolution timeline within 30 days. I am submitting this complaint regarding my 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 3.0L, VIN [XXX]. My vehicle previously received an EGR/emissions-related repair in XXX. The vehicle records also show emissions-related campaigns/repairs, including VB1, V08, and VA7. I am concerned that Ram/Stellantis is not honoring applicable EGR coverage associated with the class action lawsuit XXX v. FCA US LLC, Civil Action No.XXX, in the [XXX]. This case concerns alleged defects involving EGR coolers in 2014–2019 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel trucks. The court-approved settlement provides coverage relating to the EGR cooler issue. I contacted Ram/Stellantis and the dealership and requested that they review my VIN and the applicable recall and extended warranty information. I was told that the applicable coverage was not showing or was not being honored. I was also given manufacturer case number XXX. I am requesting that NHTSA review whether my VIN is covered by the applicable EGR recall, warranty extension, or court-approved settlement and whether my previous January 2023 EGR repair affects eligibility for later applicable coverage. My vehicle currently has approximately 168,000 miles. I can provide repair orders, recall documentation, dealership communications, and other supporting records. I respectfully request that NHTSA document this complaint and investigate whether Stellantis/Ram is properly complying with applicable recall and extended-coverage requirements. • Air bagsFiled Aug 27, 2026

The side curtain airbag inflator in our 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel spontaneously exploded without any impact, warning, or deployment command. The inflator violently ruptured inside the headliner, ejecting high‑velocity metal fragments and debris throughout the cabin. The blast destroyed the side curtain airbag system and caused severe interior damage. The explosion was forceful enough that we initially believed the vehicle had been vandalized. After removing the headliner, our upholstery technician identified the source as the airbag curtain inflator, which had ruptured internally. He immediately stopped work due to the extreme safety hazard, liability concerns, and the clear presence of a catastrophic component failure. This failure created a life‑threatening shrapnel hazard inside the passenger compartment. Had this occurred while driving—especially at highway speeds—the sudden detonation, debris, and loss of side‑impact protection could have caused loss of vehicle control, severe injury, or fatal collision. The vehicle now has zero functional side airbag protection and cannot be safely operated. There were no warning lights, no airbag indicators, and no prior symptoms before the inflator ruptured. We contacted both the manufacturer (Stellantis/FCA) and our local Ram dealership. Both refused to inspect or repair the vehicle, stating that our VIN is not currently listed under an active recall. However, this model year does have an existing side curtain airbag inflator recall, and the failure mode we experienced is identical to the known defect involving explosive inflator rupture and shrapnel ejection. The manufacturer is currently refusing communication and has declined to evaluate the vehicle despite the severity of the safety defect. This incident demonstrates a critical and dangerous failure of the airbag inflator system that may affect additional Ram 1500 Rebel vehicles of the same model year. We request NHTSA investigation, and expansion of the recall.

Dealership held vehicle for approximately 2.5 months for major service totaling nearly $6,900 (primarily covered by extended warranty with ~$1,000 paid out-of-pocket). Upon return, the vehicle failed to function properly and was released in a dangerously compromised, life-threatening condition—specifically with a brake line left completely disconnected from the caliper, loose/wiggling, and actively leaking brake fluid. Vehicle had to be towed to an independent facility (John Kent Auto + Truck Repair), where I paid $215 to diagnose and rectify safety issues caused/missed by Tate Dodge. This hazardous mechanical failure occurred while driving the vehicle with my family on board. Shockingly, a SUET CAKE was apparently deliberately left sitting inside the engine bay near the battery, a second hazard to myself and the public - rodents could eat the engine wires. Condition, extreme safety hazards, and gross service negligence officially documented via Anne Arundel County Police Department Incident Report #2026199618. The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the dealer performed an unknown software update associated with an unknown class-action lawsuit settlement without the owner's consent. Following the software update, the vehicle experienced cooling system failures, including oil intrusion in the coolant reservoir and brown and burnt coolant. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions and was eventually diagnosed with a turbocharger oil leak. The turbocharger was replaced under warranty; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer several times, and the diesel particulate filter (DPF) was replaced. Additionally, while driving 68 MPH, the vehicle stalled, and the low oil pressure warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the engine oil and oil filter were replaced; however, the failure worsened, and the engine made an abnormal knocking sound. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, and was diagnosed with a blown head gasket, and the engine was replaced; however, the failure persisted, resulting in additional failures, including emissions failures. The vehicle was towed to an independent diesel mechanic, where no diagnostic trouble codes were found. The contact stated that the new engine failed at 100,000 miles. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

I started my Truck to go to a funeral approximately 100 miles from my house and the brake light , abs light and traction control light all came on. thank goodness it did not happen while in motion. after doing significant research I am appalled that this common safety issue has not been addressed by the dealer. I am reporting a severe and widespread manufacturing defect regarding the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module in my 2015 Ram 1500. Upon starting the vehicle, the dashboard is clear. However, immediately upon driving forward or backward, the internal electronics of the ABS module fail (Fault Code C2200-49: ABS Module Internal Electronic Failure). This instantaneous failure immediately disables the Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS), Traction Control System (TCS), and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) without warning while the vehicle is in motion. The sudden, unprompted deactivation of the ABS and Electronic Stability Control while driving creates an immediate safety hazard, especially during inclement weather, emergency braking scenarios, or high-speed maneuvers. The loss of these critical safety driver-aids significantly increases the risk of a vehicle skid, loss of steering control, and subsequent crash. This exact C2200-49 defect is heavily documented across thousands of identical 4th-generation Ram trucks, indicating a systemic design flaw (faulty internal circuit boards/solder joints exposed to engine heat) that Stellantis has refused to recall, despite issuing similar ABS recalls for newer model years. Thank goodness I was moving very slow. After all the lights came on I tested the truck with my abs tool and received a code C2200 49/st. upon further research I found it is a very common and expensive fix. I am unable to reach the local dodge ram dealer locally or the statewide service number. 7/36/26 must be a computer outage. I will continue to attempt to get an appointment at the dealer for confirmation.

The contact stated that the fuel system was replaced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel); however, after the repair, the vehicle persistently experienced fuel injector leaks and fuel line failures. The contact stated that while inspecting the vehicle at the residence, a fuel injector leak was noticed along with fuel leaking onto the exhaust. Additionally, the contact noticed thick white smoke emerging from the engine bay on one occasion, suspected a fire hazard, and used a fire extinguisher to dissipate the smoke. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle entered LIMP Mode and stalled. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road and verified that a fuel injector had blown. The vehicle was driven to the dealer, who had advised the contact that the vehicle was safe to drive. The contact also stated that a fuel line failed while driving, requiring the vehicle to be towed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times, where technicians retrieved diagnostic trouble codes indicating low fuel pressure; however, the contact was informed that no failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to several other dealers, who referred the contact to the initial dealer who completed the recall repair. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 232,000. The VIN was invalid.

The vehicle is completely factory-stock with zero aftermarket electronics, wiring modifications, or accessories. While operating the truck, the dashboard instrument cluster suddenly began flickering wildly, indicating a severe voltage drop or electrical system failure. Immediately following the flickering, a catastrophic fire erupted inside the cabin, originating directly underneath the dashboard on the passenger's side. The fire department responded to extinguish the flames. The engine bay was unaffected by fluid leaks, and the fire originated strictly within the factory dashboard electrical wiring harness/modules. The vehicle is a total loss.

I took vehicle to my local repair shop and was told the ABS Controller Module has failed (code C2200-49 indicating an internal electronic failure within the controller). I was quoted a replacement cost of $1579 + tax. I was also told the part, 68228991AD is on indefinite backorder. I have tried to locate the part on my own and there is in fact a nationwide backorder. As of this date replacement and remanufactured modules are not available. This is not just an issue with 2015 Ram trucks but extends to other Ram model years using the same part number. This is a huge safety issue that should be addressed through a recall. It is a travesty that Ram would not maintain adequate supplies of essential safety-related repair parts for a vehicle that is only 10 years old. • Vehicle speed control, service brakesFiled Jun 28, 2026

Subject: Request for Investigation of ABS Module Failure and Part Unavailability To Whom It May Concern, I am requesting that NHTSA investigate a potential safety issue involving the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module, Part Number 68228991AD. The ABS module in my vehicle has failed, causing the ABS and cruise control systems to stop functioning. In addition, the ABS, check engine, and brake warning lights remain illuminated at all times. As a result, the vehicle no longer has anti-lock braking capability, which increases the risk of skidding and loss of control during emergency braking or adverse road conditions. My primary concern is that this safety-critical part appears to be discontinued or otherwise unavailable. I have spent more than three years attempting to locate a replacement through dealerships, parts suppliers, salvage yards, and online sources without success. Because the required part cannot be obtained, owners are left driving vehicles with a disabled ABS system for extended periods. This creates an ongoing safety risk for drivers, passengers, and others on the road. A critical safety system should be repairable when it fails. This issue has also created a significant financial burden. The constant warning lights and inoperable safety features substantially reduce the value of the vehicle and make it difficult to sell or trade. Few buyers would be willing to purchase a vehicle with persistent ABS, brake, and check engine warnings that cannot be repaired due to the lack of available parts. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate the frequency of failures involving ABS Module Part Number 68228991AD, the availability of replacement parts, and whether manufacturer action, including a recall or extended support program, is warranted. Thank you for your consideration and commitment to vehicle safety.

While driving on the highway with my entire family in the vehicle, truck lost power without warning and what it seems it went into a limp mode. This created an incredibly hazardous situation, exposing my family and the drivers around us to an imminent risk of a high-speed collision. Thankfully, nothing happened and no one was hurt. Upon restarting the vehicle, the check engine light illuminated, and power was drastically reduced, capping our speed at approximately 40 mph. I brought the truck to St Charles's dealership for diagnosis. Service department has informed me that the root cause of this catastrophic failure was the crankshaft tone wheel. Furthermore, I was informed that this specific issue was an unaddressed/unfixed defect on my vehicle by Stellantis. What I learned is that the fix for a broken tone wheel required dropping the transmission to physically press a brand-new tone wheel onto the crankshaft. Because this was incredibly expensive and time-consuming, Chrysler rolled out a recall remedy consisting of a Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software flash. This should be unacceptable for trucks that cost $70,000 or any vehicle. Imagine that software failed what would have happened and yet we had no idea about this.

In December 2023 my truck was diagnosed with a faulty Anti-lock brake module. The Ram dealer that diagnosed my truck was unable to source a new anti-lock brake module, but told me, "We're not allowed to tell you this, but it will always have brakes". My anti-lock brakes and traction control have been disabled for 2.5 years. The part I need is supposedly under "Engineer Review" and is still not available. In March 2026 I experienced a number of electrical issues and took my truck to a different Ram dealer. Their diagnosis indicated my ABS module has degraded further and has shorted the CAN bus. This disables the transmission shifter, electronic throttle control, electrical power steering, speedometer, and 4wd system. These were all disabled while traveling at 65 MPH on the interstate. Currently, my truck is immobile and is at a dealer awaiting an Anti-lock brake module. The part has been backordered. I'm happy to pay the repair costs the get my truck back. I'm writing because of the huge safety concern of being forced to drive with a faulty Anti-lock braking system due to a lack of available parts (2.5 years! and counting). Especially when it can disable the transmission shifter, throttle control, and electrical power steering while driving.

While driving my 2015 Ram 1500, I was exiting the freeway and attempting to merge into traffic when the electric power steering system appeared to fail or malfunction. The steering suddenly became very stiff, and I struggled to turn the steering wheel while trying to safely merge. Shortly after the steering became difficult to control, the power steering warning light came on. This created a safety concern because I was actively merging into traffic and had reduced ability to steer the vehicle. The sudden loss of power steering assist increased the risk of a crash with surrounding vehicles, especially because the failure occurred during a traffic maneuver. The vehicle and power steering system are available for inspection upon request. At this time, it is UNKNOWN whether the problem has been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. It is also UNKNOWN whether the vehicle or component has been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others. Prior to the incident, the power steering appeared to operate normally. The warning lamp came on after the steering became stiff. The problem appears to be intermittent, as the steering may work after the vehicle sits overnight, but the warning light and steering issue return after driving for a period of time. Based on my assessment, the issue may involve the electric power steering system, EPS control module, wiring, fuse/fusible link, or related steering assist component, but the exact cause is currently UNKNOWN.

The vehicle is experiencing an intermittent and unpredictable loss of power steering assist. The steering becomes extremely stiff and difficult to turn, often immediately upon startup or while at a standstill, then randomly becomes loose again before returning to a stiff state. This creates a significant safety hazard as the effort required to steer changes without warning during operation. Upon inspection, the electrical connectors to the EPS rack were found to be clean and free of corrosion, suggesting an internal failure of the Electronic Power Steering motor or control module. This issue is identical to the safety concerns addressed in NHTSA Recall 16V-167 (S19), but this specific VIN is not currently included in that recall.
