The DPF system failed prematurely at 68k. My truck as working fine with zero problems until I took it in for the Y43 safety recall July 2025. the dealership performed the software update without verifying if parts were in stock first. They took the part (dpf module) off a used truck from the lot and installed it on mine without asking me first. They told me they would call me when the parts became available. They never called so I took it in for a battery issue were the batteries were overheating and dying. I asked that they replace the used part and look into the fried battery issue. Knowing how this dealership operates I went ahead and marked the old part with nail polish. when I was called to pick up my truck I met with the GM and he assured me everything was taken care of and the new DPF Module was replaced. I got under my truck and the used part as still there. The GMs face went pale and couldn't believe that they had lied. He asked that I leave it so he could make things right. They replaced the DPF module and the batteries. I met with the service manager and he took full responsibility for the lies and theft. ( I have the conversation recorded). I went back a few days later to ask why my truck kept doing Regens like every 3 days and they informed me it was normal. fast forward to July 2006 same issues batteries fried and died then the DPF notification came up saying "DEF Filter Full Power Reduced See Dealer". I take it back to the same dealership and they informed me my DPF filter is full and I must pay 3800 out of pocket because the recall didn't cover it and neither does the extended warranty. I asked them how is it possible for my DPF filter to be full if all the REGENS are performed and the message will NOT clear until the region is complete. my filter never showed it was getting full and it never surpassed the 40 percent full and its impossible for it to be full from one day to the other. I took it to another dodge and stellantis refused to fix it.

While driving the rear tail gate drops. This has happened on several different occasions. Once it dropped while towing a trailer and I damaged the tailgate on the trailer tongue jack. There is no indicator in the cab of the truck to inform you that the tailgate has dropped, unlike the door indicators. I am positive that the tailgate was up and latched, so it’s not an instance where the tailgate is not fully closed. This could lead to other vehicles or motorcycle riders hitting objects that may fall out of the open tailgate, causing damage or injuries.

Vehicle would not start. I put a new battery in, the vehicle still would not start, and the break pedal was stiff. Had someone jump the vehicle, i started it and drove to the dealership service department where I originally bought the vehicle. They said it may be the starter. but they hadn't looked at the vehicle. I told them I would drive to a different shop because it's cheaper. When I tried to put it in drive the vehicle would not move it was giving an error message on the dash. I had to leave the truck there. 2 days later they called me and told me the issue was caused by a recalled part and they fixed the issue. When I arrived they told me I would have to pay $215 diagnostic fee. I told them it's federally prohibited to charge for a recalled part. I had to argue with them to get my vehicle back. They told me next time I should tow the vehicle if I dont want to pay a diagnostic fee. I attached proof of the recall service and the $215 fee listed that they tried to charge me.

    • Engine, fuel/propulsion systemFiled Jun 10, 2026

The vehicle has experienced repeated failures related to the diesel emissions system despite multiple repair attempts. The primary symptom is an illuminated check engine light accompanied by diagnostic trouble code P2459 (Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration Frequency). The vehicle frequently enters regeneration cycles and continues to exhibit the same symptoms after major emissions system repairs. The emissions system components, including the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and related DEF system components, were previously replaced by an authorized dealer. Following those repairs, the same warning light and fault code returned. The vehicle was subsequently inspected by another authorized dealer, which was unable to identify a definitive cause of the recurring condition. The check engine light was cleared, but it returned less than a week later with the same symptoms. The failure creates a safety concern because the vehicle may enter reduced-power or limp-home operating modes without warning, potentially limiting acceleration and the ability to maintain traffic speed. This is especially concerning when merging onto highways, crossing intersections, towing loads, or operating in heavy traffic. The recurring nature of the failure has reduced confidence in the reliability and safe operation of the vehicle. The condition has been reproduced multiple times and has been documented by authorized service facilities. Warning lamps and fault codes have repeatedly reappeared following repairs. The vehicle and emissions system components remain available for inspection upon request.

I have a clunk to when coming to a stop, the transmission is down shifting, and just before it comes to a complete stop, the truck has a clunk that is felt through the vehicle and heard. at times while stopped the vehicle will lurch forward as though you have been hit from behind. The truck has been back to the dealership several times for this problem, two different dealerships because the first one gave up and was suggested to take it to another dealership per Ram. The truck has been shut down completely two time to put in relearn mode, three transmission replacements, four valve body replacements, and they wanted to put a fourth transmission in the truck, but the mechanic said he doubts thats the problem to Ram, and so now they want to say that its operating as design, Ram asked me to take it to a third dealership, so I did, the mechanic and I went for a drive in the truck, the mechanic said there is definitely a problem, but he would not take on this job because he would not want to deal with Ram and there politics. So that leaves me driving a 2022 Ram 2500 truck I purchased [XXX] that did not have this problem until after purchase six months later. Ram customer care has offered money for my inconvenience, I said I just want my truck fixed, they said they are not going to do anymore. I have a vehicle that has been in the shop for a total of eleven months since i have purchase it, has not been fixed, and every time I come to a stop I cringe because I know it is going to clunk and I didn't even take my new travel trailer out the last year because of fear of it breaking down. I paid good money for this truck, and it seems Ram does not care, they got my money and so they got what they wanted. If Ram cannot fix this, then let's talk about getting me in another truck. I am really frustrated, and do not know where to turn. Thank you [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

    • Fuel/propulsion systemFiled Dec 6, 2025

My 2022 Ram 2500 6.4L HEMI has a long crank/hard-start issue every morning. It takes 5–6 attempts to start when the vehicle sits overnight. After starting once, it runs normally the rest of the day. I also had issues where the truck struggled to start after refueling. I replaced the gas cap and EVAP purge valve, which improved the refueling issue, but the long-crank cold start continues. I suspect a fuel pump internal check-valve failure causing fuel pressure to bleed down overnight. This is common on these trucks and is a safety concern because the vehicle may fail to start in emergency situations or stall unexpectedly. No check-engine light is present. The issue is repeatable daily.” Faulty fuel pumps in these specific RAM models can suddenly fail while driving. This failure can lead to a complete loss of engine power without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.

I am reporting a recurring safety defect involving hydraulic lifter failure in Ram trucks equipped with the Cummins diesel engine (model years 2019–2024). This issue is widely acknowledged by Stellantis and multiple dealers. It typically begins with a knocking sound and has been documented in many cases to progress to complete engine failure. My vehicle has fewer than 20,000 miles. The lifters were already replaced once, which required the cab to be removed. Within less than 400 miles of that repair, the knocking sound has returned. I brought the truck to a second dealer, who confirmed the problem and informed me that Stellantis has an active STAR case acknowledging the defect. They stated there is currently no known permanent fix. This defect presents a serious safety concern. Sudden engine failure while driving, especially under load or at highway speeds, could lead to loss of power, loss of steering/braking assist, and potential accidents. In my situation, I frequently travel with family members who have medical conditions, and being stranded in hazardous or remote conditions poses significant risk. At this point, my vehicle is not reliable or safe to operate. I am requesting NHTSA investigate the hydraulic lifter defect in 2019–2024 Ram Cummins trucks due to the safety implications and the lack of an available permanent repair.

    • SeatsCrash1 injuredFiled Nov 18, 2025

While slowing for traffic, I was struck in the rear by a large pickup. On impact, the driver seat broke, causing the whole seat to tilt back to more than 45 degrees backwards tilt. This caused me to impact the seat at a greater impact than I would have had if the seat remained in place. The seat being in that position after the impact, made it so I could not reach the pedals (brakes) to stop the vehicle from rolling forward until I used the steering wheel to pull myself forward. Upon inspection after the collision, it was observed that part of the adjustment assembly detached from a bolt causing the seat to come loose from its proper position.

Upon research there is a common problem with this said coil spring. This can cause multiple problems including loss of air bag function and front end collision indicator which comes on time to time saying it’s disabled due to this same said coil. Why this is not a recall and the owner’s responsibility is unknown. There is also no indicator telling you if the airbag may or may not deploy when need from this issue.

After the y43 recall that Dodge did on 2022 Cummins Ram vehicles I have had four issues. The first one being the recall itself having sensors stuck while replacing, the second being the particulate filter sensor, third being DPF pressure sensor, and fourth being the maf sensor. During my most recent visit of getting the math sensor replaced I was not given any reason to why this was being replaced when they said everything seem to be within parameters. The dealership had stayed in one talking to the TA or tech advisor that they wanted to try this to see if it fixed the issue. I am now back again at the dealership just days later after the dealership having my truck for 2 weeks for the same issue. This all stems from the y43 recall and I've only had issues since. I've asked for specific answers to specific questions in Dodge seems to pass technical engineering questions back to the dealership without providing educated answers instead of educated guesses. During the y43 recall it stated that there is potential fire hazards in other issues that could happen. I'm not okay with ram allowing for guessing games when it comes to my safety. I would like answers in educated fixes put into place while ensuring that the y43 recall they guaranteed the government is resolved without any further issues during this fix.

Truck has 21000 miles, sidewalls on all 4 tires are splitting and have a ring around them in the same exact spot on the sidewalls. Dealer said it appears to be a defect on all tires. Dodge referred me to Firestone, got no where with them. Tires appear the sidewalls could blow out on highway and unsafe. Caught defects before possible premature blowouts on all 4 tires due to premature cracking on sidewalls. No towing or hauling done with truck, never been off pavement either, truck parked under cover from sun etc. Dealer advised tires not worn and had great tread depth. The throttle position engine light came on and the truck overheated and completely shut down nearly causing a high speed crash on I/40 east of amarillo. The 5th wheel was 17000 pounds and the truck had 37000 miles on it. The dealer (Lipscomb Dodge Elk City , OK) advised it was the crankshaft position sensor and that it was on the same circuit as numerous other sensors that are vital to keeping the engine running and the truck operating safely. The truck is available for inspection, and now has a loud ticking noise (possibly an injector, lifter, or exhaust leak due to the over heating caused by the faulty sensor.

The truck has not been in any accidents, no visible wear on the seatbelt. We typically use the rear seatbelts for our children but now we cannot ride with 5 passengers safely in the vehicle. We took the truck to a RAM dealership in Hendersonville, NC who told us we would need to pay nearly $600 to repair the belt. With the truck only being a few years old and no collisions or incidents, it seems like a manufacturer defect.

The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor on my 2022 Ram 2500 failed, causing multiple system malfunctions. It triggered inaccurate Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) codes and showed abnormally high idle hours that do not reflect actual vehicle use. This defect is tied to a known issue identified by Stellantis in Technical Service Bulletin #18-002-24, which acknowledges improper MAF sensor calibration or compatibility on vehicles like mine. The bulletin was verbally confirmed by the dealership as applying to my truck. This faulty sensor caused emissions system errors, degraded engine performance, and may impact emissions compliance. There was a persistent check engine light, reduced fuel economy, and the risk of engine derating. The problem was reproduced and confirmed by Encore Chrysler (Mobile, AL), an authorized Ram dealership. Stellantis has agreed to cover the repair under Goodwill, but the issue appears systemic. Safety was potentially compromised by inaccurate sensor data that may cause sudden engine derate or failure during operation. Additionally, the incorrect idle hour readings could affect warranty determinations and long-term diagnostics if not corrected. The check engine light first appeared on May 21, 2024. The vehicle has been out of service since May 22, 2024, and repairs are still pending. The MAF sensor and affected systems are available for inspection upon request. This issue may affect a broader set of Ram 2500 trucks, and given the manufacturer’s internal bulletin, it may merit a recall review.

I bought my 2022 Ram 2500 brand new as a factory order. It is currently in the shop at Ron Lewis Ram in Cranberry Twp, PA to get a rear window water leak diagnosed. The dealer has told me that the rear windows frame is cracked in multiple places and wont be covered by my 8 year/125,000 mile max care warranty. I told them that it should be covered since its apparently a factory defect that caused the issue. They informed me that since I am at 55,000 miles, Ram wont pay to repair the issue, that I had until 36,000 miles to have this issue and have it repaired. Through the power of Google search, I was able to find that countless Ram 1500 trucks have had this identical issue and a TSB exists for it. The TSB for the Ram 1500 (23-098-23 Rev A) states that it was caused by a manufacturing issue, that the repairs will be made, and that Ram will cover the repair until the truck hits 8 years/ 150,000 miles. I cannot find a TSB for the 2500 trucks that have the identical issue and I can't believe for a second that I have the only 2500 Ram on the road with this issue, especially after seeing the identical problem with the Ram 1500 and even the Jeep Gladiator, all from the same manufacturer of Stellantis- who owns both Ram and Jeep. The dealer says that I will have to pay a couple of thousand dollars out of pocket to have these repairs made on my own.
