As I was turning into traffic from a stop, the power steering failed to work. I did not have strength to turn the steering wheel and needed someone else to drive it. There were no warnings prior to the failure, but as it failed, several items flashed. I am waiting for more information from the service center/dealer. Although it seemed that the power steering would work intermittently, the service center stated that the rack and pinion were "dead on the bus," which is vernacular that is unfamiliar to me. They have not yet informed me as to how or why the mechanisms failed.

I bought a New Dodge Ram 3500 cargo van in 2022. The van currently has 48,000 miles and the steering started violently pulling, almost causing a wreck on a couple of occasions. I took into the dealership and they said the wiring harness for the steering rack is bad and not under warranty. This is a manufacturer defect, looking online there are hundreds of cases just like mine, with a couple of serious wrecks. The manufacture knows that water is getting in the steering harness wiring, causing it to short out and corrode. The dealership is telling me that not only is the part not under warranty, but they don't have it and have no idea when they will get this part. I had the exact same issues with another one of my vans last year. it took six months for the repair part to come in. Two vans, one with 20,000 miles and one with 48,000 miles, both the same issues and the same issue getting the correct replacement part.

  • EngineFiled Sep 4, 2026

I am submitting a safety complaint regarding my 2022 Ram 3500/Thor Class B RV, VIN [XXX], with only approximately 6,858 miles, which I brought to a dealer in the Inland Empire for Recall [XXX]. Before taking my truck to the dealer, there was no known coolant leak. The vehicle was in good condition and operating normally. I left the truck with the dealer specifically for the recall service. After approximately two days, the dealer called me and said they had found a coolant-system leak and that I would need to pay approximately 1,500 for repairs. I was surprised because there was no known leak when I delivered the vehicle. I immediately contacted MOPAR for assistance and asked whether the leak could be related to the recall service or whether the repair should be covered. Unfortunately, MOPAR did not resolve my concern. I declined the 1,500 repair. The dealer told me they could not guarantee there would be no leaks after the recall repair was completed. When I picked up my truck, the dealer did not tell me that the coolant leak was still present or warn me about driving the vehicle. I drove the truck home. After getting home, I opened the hood and discovered a long screwdriver left inside the engine compartment. I am not claiming that the dealer caused the coolant leak. However, I am concerned about the timing of the leak, the recall service, the 1,500 repair demand, the lack of warning at pickup, and the screwdriver left in the engine compartment. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate whether this coolant leak may be related to Recall 67C, the recall repair, an improper repair, or another safety defect. NOTE: I am now seeing on your website that it appears the Recall 67C repair has not been recorded as completed for my vehicle. I have uploaded a screenshot of the information shown on the website for your reference. Please review this discrepancy as part of my complaint. • Steering, lane departureFiled Aug 17, 2026

Intermittent 'Service Power Steering' and LaneSense warnings first appeared in May 2026. Repair shop found Diagnostic trouble code C1593-49 - Steering torque sensor circuit/internal electronic failure. The repair shop found water intrusion and corrosion at steering electrical connector(s). Cleaning did not resolve the fault. Diagnosis: Internal steering torque sensor failure. Sensor is integral to the electric steering rack; complete rack replacement required. Photos are available for inspection. Safety of the driver and all others on the road was at risk, as the 2022 Promaster 3500 is a heavy vehicle that could become unmanageable without power steering. Problem was confirmed by EAS Tire and Auto in Lafayette, Colorado. The component was returned to Mopar when the new component was ordered. This issue is an additional example/complaint to NHTSA Investigation PE26-002 for intermittent or complete loss of electric power steering, including reports involving water intrusion and corrosion affecting the power steering system. My vehicle exhibits substantially similar symptoms and diagnostic findings. I have a finalized repair invoice, diagnostic report showing DTC C1593-49, and photographs of corrosion/connectors.

  • Power train, structureFiled Aug 14, 2026

Component/System: Structure – Cowl / Air Intake / Engine Issue: Water intrusion through cowl leading to intake flooding and engine hydrolock Summary of the Defect The vehicle experienced a catastrophic engine failure caused by water intrusion through the two piece cowl assembly. The seal between the two cowl sections failed, allowing rainwater to pour directly into the engine compartment. The intake manifold sits directly beneath this leak point and contains a recessed area where water can pool. After heavy rainfall, water entered the intake system and subsequently reached cylinders 2 and 4, causing the engine to hydrolock upon startup. The engine was rendered inoperable at only 29,139 miles. Detailed Description of the Incident The vehicle was parked outside an auto repair facility for a routine battery replacement. It was not driven during this period. Over the course of two heavy rain events, water entered the engine compartment through the failed seam in the two piece cowl. When the repair facility attempted to start the vehicle, the engine immediately hydrolocked. Upon disassembly: •The air intake tract was found full of water. •The intake manifold contained pooled water. •Cylinders 2 and 4 contained water. •The engine suffered internal damage consistent with hydrolock and was declared a total loss. All findings were documented by the mechanic, including photographs and diagnostic notes. Safety Concern This failure represents a serious safety defect. Water intrusion through a structural component should not be able to reach the intake manifold or engine cylinders under any circumstances — especially while the vehicle is stationary. A sudden hydrolock event can cause: •Immediate engine shutdown •Loss of motive power •Loss of power steering and braking assist •Potential loss of control if occurring while driving •Extremely costly engine destruction Inspected by mechanic. Nobody else. No warnings.

  • Steering, forward collision avoidanceFiled Jul 27, 2026

The forward collision light has been on but has not been affecting driving. Since I saw that here I figured it was worth mentioning. I have mentioned this to the dealership that is handling the current recalls as well. The more pressing issue is the steering. It happened once before where I was backing up and the steering wheel became difficult to rotate and violently jerking back against the direction of rotation. After shutting down the van and restarting it the issue had seemingly gone away. I emailed RAM about this initial occurrence but have yet to hear back. Last night, July 26, 2026, the issue occurred again as I was attempting to back out of my driveway. As I tried to turn the steering wheel it seemed to "fight" me, becoming difficult to rotate and violently jerking the other way against the direction I was attempting to rotate it. I switched from reverse to drive and was able to re-park the van where it was parked prior. My safety was not compromised in any considerable manner as this occurred at low, "driveway" speed. It was just me in the vehicle with no one else around. The problem has not been reproduced by a dealer yet nor has it been inspected by a dealer or service center. The warning lamps for the ESC and EPS came on once the problem began occurring but seemed to turn off after restarting. The problem appears to be currently intermittent in nature but, based on other accounts, the fact that this is occurring is seemingly indicative of a more serious issue in how this vehicle was manufactured. My concern is this happening at highway speeds where my safety and the safety of others will be jeopardized. ***I have a video I can send you but the link below does not allow mp4 files***

    Incident Jul 26, 2026

  • Steering, electrical systemFiled Jul 13, 2026

I am reporting a severe, intermittent loss of Electronic Power Steering (EPS) assist on a 2022 Ram ProMaster cargo van at ~21,000 miles. The defect causes sudden drops in steering assistance and erratic wheel-jerking under heavy electrical loads during rapid, low-speed turns while parking.A professional dealer teardown and inspection at Dutch Miller Ram confirmed that environmental rainwater from the windshield cowl completely breached the factory weatherproofing seals. Standing liquid was found pooling inside the bottom floor of the connector housing, causing severe copper oxidation (galvanic corrosion) and visible electrical arcing on a constantly energized 12V male pin inside the EPS gear cylinder. This high-current bottleneck drops voltage under load, causing the internal ECU to cut assist as a safety fail-safe.Critically, this design defect created an immediate, progressive cascading failure dating back to the very first month of ownership. Because this 12V power line remains constantly "hot" while parked, the pooling water established an un-metered short-circuit bridge directly to the frame ground. This forced an aggressive parasitic electrical drain that repeatedly flattened the battery after sitting for short two-week intervals throughout its lifespan, destroying the original factory battery. The dealer's safety protocol requires a complete steering rack replacement. However, because Ram recognized this vulnerability, they completely superseded the part with a redesigned assembly that forces consumers to purchase new, non-faulty tie rod assemblies just to make it compatible, inflating costs to over $6,000. This data directly supports the active NHTSA investigation into 2022-2023 ProMaster steering modules. Furthermore I imagine that since some people may continue to drive the vehicle under this particular condition of "barely being affected" until there is sudden failure on the highway or zero signs prior to catastrophic failure. The power steering for my 2022 Ram Promaster failed on 3/7/24. The safety issue this caused was that steering the van was nearly impossible. Fortunately, the failure occurred while I was in a parking lot. The van had to be towed to the local dealer. The defective parts were on backorder (part number 6TB16JXWAC Module-steering control) and arrived on 5/21/24. This was covered under warranty and the repair work was done by the local dealer. There weren't any warning lamps that would indicate an issue. I used the van to drive to the jobsite, worked for a few hours, and the issue occurred as I was leaving for the day.

Promaster 3500 Forward Collision Warning turning itself off in Uconnect. Uconnect is where you can turn off FCW or set it to warning only, or warning and braking. I want it ON all the time but it keeps setting itself OFF. I turn on the vehicle and I see the warning light indicating it is turned OFF. I have to go into setting and set it manually. I will travel to get gas and when I re start the vehicle it is set OFF again. If I don't happen to notice it, I'm traveling down the road without this safety feature, which to me is dangerous and just not right. My Promaster is a Roadtrek van and the service manager at the dealer where I purchased the van says he sees this light on all the time on other Promaster vehicles and just ignores it. I see many posts on Roadtrek and Promaster forums that reference people having the same issue. Ram dealer finally acknowledged the issue but is unable to get any acknowledgement from the manufacturer that they are working on a fix. I've had this issue from day one and have taken it to the dealer several times with no resolution. My vehicle is subject to Safety Recall 67C for an engine-compartment fire risk involving the cooling fan module and inadequate fuse protection. I contacted an authorized Ram dealership and Stellantis corporate. Both confirmed that the recall is open and that no repair remedy is currently available. Stellantis has confirmed in writing (Case #95056397) that there is no interim safety solution available for affected owners while this recall remains unresolved. This vehicle is my primary residence. Stellantis has offered rental reimbursement, but this does not provide a safe or realistic interim solution for a vehicle that functions as both transportation and housing. The manufacturer has acknowledged a fire risk but has provided no interim safety guidance or accommodation for owners who cannot reasonably stop using the vehicle while awaiting a remedy. I am reporting this as a safety concern due to the lack of a remedy and the absence of interim safety guidance for affected owners. Stellantis has issued a stop-sale on affected vehicles, confirming the seriousness of the defect, while existing owners remain without a viable safety alternative.

Per the dealer water entered the wiring harness and entered the power steering module causing it to fail. When the power steering failed, warning messages began appearing on the dash, which included "hill assist needs service", "ECS needs service", "FWC system needs service" and "Engine needs service".

Power steering failure. Luckily for us, the failure happened while still in our driveway, so no accident or collision occurred. We had warning messages for ESC, hill start assist, and several other systems, but nothing for EPS (electric power steering). The dealership was able to repair the problem by replacing the steering rack and two associated wiring harnesses. The mechanic noted water and a lot of corrosion in the wiring connector on the steering rack. This vehicle has only had normal water exposure (rain and puddles on the road).

The electronic power steering has failed on my 2022 Ram Promaster with 38,000 miles. While driving the steering wheel began jerking violently and couldn't be controlled. It seemed like there was a legitimate chance of the vehicle rolling over on the highway. The issue was reproduced and confirmed by a Ram Dealer in my area. The dealer stated "verified customer complaint intermittent lack of power steering assist at times. found I264A inline connection under vehicle full of water / mud with corrosion no connector repair kits available to fix any of this harness replacement with rack is required". There were no warnings lamps or any notification of an issue prior to or even while the issue occurred.

I purchased this Ram Promaster 3500 in 2022. In 2023 I was in Canada and went to have a spare key made. The dealer was unable to program a key to the vehicle. When I returned home to the Seattle area I took the vehicle to a Seattle Ram Business link dealer. They were also unable to program a key. May of 2025 I took the vehicle in for work and asked them to continue investigating the key issue. They were still unable to do so and said that I needed a new RFH. This repair did not fix the problem and made it impossible to start the engine. They also replaced the PCM. This did not correct the problem. A tech was called from MOPAR who found a STAR ONLINE PUBLICATION for mopar which states that between Ram vehicles ( I don’t know if it is specific to ProMasters) manufactured between the dates of 11/29/2021 and 12/23/2021 had an “incorrect encryption software being programmed to the immobilizer modules.” If you type the VIN into the Service Library you can verify that S2208000129 is applicable. I was not made aware of this until I picked up the vehicle from the dealer with the old parts reinstalled. My concern is that I don’t know what else this problem in terms of the electrical and safety systems.

The contact's employer leased a 2022 Ram Promaster as a work vehicle. The contact stated that the front driver’s side door striker had become loosened and had started to detach from the frame of the vehicle. The contact stated that the door failed to lock securely while driving due to the failure. Upon further inspection of other work vehicles, the contact stated that there were several vehicles with similar failures. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

    • Vehicle speed control, forward collision avoidanceFiled Sep 26, 2024

While cruising at highway speed with adaptive cruise control enabled, the vehicle will incorrectly detect traffic/speed signs and will rapidly decelerate on a highway in traffic. I believe that the message that displays after detecting the new speed limit (improperly based on a sign other than a highway speed limit sign) without giving the option to reject using the "resume" button before. There is an option to disable traffic/speed sign detection, but that must be manually disabled in software every time the vehicle is re-started. Adjustment of the speed during adaptive cruise control based on traffic/speed signs should be disabled for safety. It's fine to have the speed limit displayed on the dash, but dangerous to have the vehicle adjust speed on its own without sufficient warning, or at all. I would like to request that RAM be directed to disable the software connection between traffic/speed sign detection and the adaptive cruise control so that, just like regular cruise control, the operator chooses the vehicle's speed. Note that this issue has happened many times since I've owned the vehicle, which was purchased as new, but I am now complaining to NHTSA because I experienced multiple incidents on my most recent trip that might have risked a rear-end collision from a vehicle following me when deceleration occurred.

    • Service brakesFiled Sep 17, 2024

Brakes failed (for the 4th or 5th time) while driving on the highway after approximately two hours. While traveling approximately 55mph on the highway (I do not drive engaging the brakes unless stopping) the Notice Service Braking System alert indicated on the dash. When I went to push in the brakes, they went to the floor, grinding and "pulsing" in and out as I attempted to stop. Please note that this issue has happened 3-4 times in the past and the dealership assures me this is normal. I was able to successfully get the vehicle to a dealership. THEY SAID THE STORED CODES MEANT NOTHING because they were stored and not active (see attached)That dealership stated they could not find anything wrong and therefore nothing to fix. I then drove the vehicle another two hours and the same thing happened. I got the vehicle to another dealership where it is now until they remedy the situation. In addition, when starting the vehicle from a cold state, the brakes often go to the floor and grind. Again, the dealership assures me this is 'normal' and to simply pump the brakes to remove excess air. This is a new vehicle with less than 8k miles, purchased new and has been occurring since purchased.

On 11/2022 my company purchased a 2023 Dodge Promaster Work Van from a dealership brand new. In March 2023 one of my employees was driving the vehicle and there was an electrical issue which caused the breaks to not respond, and we rear ended a car which then hit the car in front of them. We were only going around 10-20 MPH as we were coming to a red light and could not stop. We requested an investigation into the source of the issue as it should not be out fault that a brand new car's breaks failed. Chrysler corporate sent someone to look at the van. They concluded that after market LEDs were installed in the back of the van improperly, and it caused a short in the electrical system which caused the breaks to fail. Chrysler Corporate said it was not their issue and closed the case. After looking at pictures from before we ever even looked at the van I saw that the LEDs were already there. The dealership admitted in email that the LEDs were in the van before we even took it off the lot. I told my insurance company this, but they did not pursue it leaving the liability on us. My insurance then dropped us as a customer. The dealership stated in email they fixed the LED lights and everything works once again. We take the van and begin using it again. Fast forward to March 2024, a different worker is driving the same van and they are again coming to a red light. The breaks fail once again. This time the breaks were going to the ground and not slowing the van down at all. My worker hits another car and then turns off and hits a fence so he does not hit anyone else in the road. This time I send my van to my local certified Chrysler dealership to have it sit there as I will initiate an inspection once again. After another month or so they finally inspect it around April 20th. This time after the inspection finishes, but does not give me a reason just meta data. You can see we used the breaks, but the speed did not slow down. This van has been a nightmare.

The engine cowl between the windshield and the hood has been failing since day 1. This is a 2023/2022 Promaster 2500/Winnebago Solis. Winnebago says RAM is responsible and RAM says it is a non issue. The engine bay floods every time it rains. I have to cover it in and out to hopefully prevent engine and computer damage. There are many hundreds of events of flooding and damage with no admission of cowl and windshield damage. With fires becoming more prevalant, I am concerned with a fire, a life threat to me and my family. We need some kind of help. Please check this all over the web. It is a problem for all Promaster. I only get a Non Issue from RAM AND NOTHING FROM Winnebago. I have sent pictures and videos to both. NOTHING BACK. Maybe there are people are knowable in fixing. I believe this is an extremely serious, life threating issue. Water and electricity never mixes. Please HELP.10

I had it flatbed towed, and the truck driver also noted the problem. Once the truck was back at my home it no longer had the problem. I took it to a dealership. They did not find anything wrong. I once again took the vehicle to drive it and the brake system is completely malfunctioning again with the pedal, smashing all the way to the floor and Again metal on metal. But no one is addressing the battery that keeps draining. We replaced battery already once. Dodge said it will go dead after a week no matter what. Ours don’t even make it 4 days. This is a safety issue because of the awning opening but it affects the battery. We would get stuck and no one to jump us.

On November 3, 2023 I was driving the van on the NYS Thruway. I had stopped at a rest area to use the facilities. When I returned to the van about 5 minutes later the vehicle was smoking profusely and objects were falling out of the engine area. By the time i got to the van there were flames coming out of the engine area and the entire front of the van was engulfed in flames. Luckily someone had called the fire department and the flames were extinguished quickly. In the meantime I had removed 2 Alpacas from the rear of the van with the help of witnesses. There were no warning signs of an issue with the engine. No warning lights and not burning odor. So, yes, I feel the I, my alpacas, and others safety were put at risk. I am so thankful that the fire started while I was stopped at the rest area and not while driving on the thruway and avoided a real tragedy. The van is a total loss. The incident has been reported to insurance and currently under investigation and are waiting a final report.

This is to report a safety report for a potentially serious, even fatal windshield, body, engine and transmission defect. Rain water pours down the windshield and floods the engine overcoming al engine parts especially electrical, transmission and engine parts that should remain dry and safe. Windshield to cowl to engine compartment will flood and overcome safety equipment. When driving in rain I received electronic messages of failure. Headlights flood which could lead to a disaster. Ram will not admit part failures, but the constant flooding is well documented. Please help the many thousands of Ram Promasters get a recall which can save lives and their vehicles. Research will give you hours and hours of similar series problems. Please help us get Stealantis/Ram to own up to this manufacturing mishap. Thanks

Van brakes unexpectedly causing loss of control of vehicle for up to 5 seconds. Cannot accelerate when this occurs. While entering a major highway and accelerating, the van braked on its own and would not accelerate causing a semi to almost run into the back end of the van. The braking happens frequently and without warning. There is no rhyme or reason as to when it will occur as in road conditions, speed, curves, weather, etc. Took to Lithia dealership in Billings, MT four times and the problem still has not been resolved. 10 Aug 2022: Lithia could not verify the forward collision error. 1 May 2023: Lithia pulled code C14A5 sensor blinded and ordered new camera. 7 July 2023: Lithia pulled code B1006-49 internal electronic failure, removed and replaced the FFCM and calibrated the camera. 25 Sep 2023: Lithia pulled code C14A5-92 sensor blinded and the FFCM was recalibrated Turned Forward Collision off but the unexpected braking still occurs. This issue has been ongoing ever since I purchased the van in July 2022. This is an extreme safety issue as I have absolutely NO CONTROL over the van when the forward collision takes over.
