Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2024 Tundra vehicles equipped with a V35A engine. Debris from the manufacturing process may contaminate the engine and cause a main bearing to fail, which can result in an engine stall and loss of drive power.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE

On XXX6, while driving on the highway at approximately 89 mph and 36,714 miles, the engine misfired and the vehicle began shaking. The check engine light started flashing and a "reduced power, visit dealer" message appeared, along with a loss of motive power. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on XXX at 37,032 miles. The dealer's repair order documents stored diagnostic trouble codes for random misfires, and states that freeze frame data confirmed misfires on cylinders 3, 4 and 5 at 89 mph and 2700 rpm in direct injection mode. Despite this, the repair order was closed as "no issue found." No repair and no further diagnosis was performed. The dealer stated the condition could not be duplicated after driving the vehicle and idling it for about an hour. The vehicle is subject to an open safety recall for machining debris in the engine (NHTSA 25V767, manufacturer 25TB14), for which no remedy is available. The recall summary lists engine knocking, rough running, no-start and loss of motive power as symptoms, and instructs owners experiencing symptoms to contact their dealer. When contacted, the dealer stated the manufacturer is still developing a remedy and that the vehicle can either wait indefinitely or be picked up as is. The defect remains undiagnosed and unrepaired. The vehicle is available for inspection. The safety concern is a sudden loss of motive power at highway speed, which is the same risk identified in the manufacturer's own recall filing. No remedy has been made available more than ten months after the recall was filed. The contact received notifications for NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 25V322000 (Exterior Lighting) and 25V767000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the parts to perform the recall repairs were unavailable. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle shuddered and vibrated abnormally and lost motive power, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact restarted the vehicle and drove to the dealer for diagnosis; however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated that the torque converter, transmission, and rear differential were previously replaced to stop the shuddering and vibration while accelerating; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the manufacturer failed to repair the vehicle within a reasonable amount of time. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000.

The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40-45 MPH, the radio started blinking, and the vehicle lost power and stopped in the middle of the road. The contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, there was a burning odor, and white smoke was coming from the HVAC system and the engine compartment. The contact turned off and exited the vehicle and the smoking stopped. The contact called the local Police to assist with directing traffic while waiting for towing assistance. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer attempted to return the vehicle to the contact after 3 weeks without confirmation of the diagnostic results or any repairs. The contact stated that the vehicle had been taken to the dealer before the failure had occurred to be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 25V767000 (Engine and Engine Cooling), 25V322000 (Exterior Lighting), 26V038000 (Back Over Prevention); however, the dealer failed to complete the recall repair because there was not enough mechanics to perform the repairs. The manufacturer was informed of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Awaiting 13 months for safety remedy for NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 25V322. NO INFORMATION FROM MANUFACTURER NOR CAR DEALER. NO ONE HAS ANY INFORMATION REGARDING TIMETABLE FOR SAFETY REPAIRS.

ENGINE

* 2024 Toyota Tundra Limited non hybrid TRD Off Road with 43k miles with catastrophic engine failure with no warning. Started as a very slight ticking sound while doing about 60 mph level to slightly downhill. * I could only hear it with very light throttle input (between 2 and 5%). Past 5% and at 0 pedal there was nothing. This went on for about 1 minute then it started to get significantly louder and more noticeable with throttle input and while starting to go uphill. * Shortly after it started catastrophically knocking with dash saying loss of power and oil pressure. * I get it stopped and it immediately shut down on its own. Due to very little warning I was forced to pull over on a right curve of a highway potentially putting my family and as well as passing traffic in danger. * Engine leaking oil. Couldn’t find anything obvious where the oil was coming from. After doing some research it seems like the front and main crank seals started leaking. More noticeable on the rear seal. This was a dangerous situation because oil was leaking on the hot exhaust and could have cased a fire on the side of a highway. * The Toyota dealer has possession of the vehicle for repairs. They have not stated if it is possible to be available for inspection. * The dealer has inspected the vehicle and is in the process of ordering a replacement engine.

ENGINE

Engine stalls or hesitates when taking off from a stop. When taking off from a stop the Truck will hesitate after the accelerator is pushed and not move forward. This hesitation causes me to push the accelerator more trying to get the Truck to move. When the truck does move it then lunges forward I assume because I continue to push the accelerator more trying to get the Truck to move. The engine in this Truck is also being recalled in Non Hybrid Models because they are seizing up. This is the exact same engine in the Hybrid and should be under the same recall for the engine seize defect.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING

I am the owner of a 2024 Toyota Tundra. My vehicle is subject to open NHTSA Recall No. 25V-332, for which I received notification. It has now been over a year since this recall was issued, and no remedy has been made available to me. I have contacted my Toyota dealership and was told the remedy parts are not yet available' or 'no timeline could be provided. This unresolved recall leaves my vehicle in a condition that Toyota itself has identified as an unreasonable safety risk. The prolonged delay in providing a free remedy, as required under the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, is my basis for this complaint. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate Toyota's compliance with recall remedy timelines and follow up on the status of parts/software availability for this recall.

ENGINE

I am writing to formally express my concern regarding my 2024 Toyota Tundra, VIN [XXX], and the engine recall involving certain 2024 Tundra vehicles. I am very concerned about the possibility of engine damage or failure related to machining debris and the potential for loss of power while driving. ENGINE

The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the short block engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact researched and became aware of an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

ENGINE

Total engine failure in v35a at 65- 70 mph which dealer has confirmed was due to main bearing failure. Inability to accelerate vehicle in heavy traffic lead to extreme unsafe situation. No warning lamps came on until after the vehicle completed stopped running. Both the manufacturer and the NHTSA are well aware of the continued problems with these engines and the unsafe failure. The only warning ‘hybrid system malfunction “( which has nothing to do with dealer performed diagnostic of metal in oil pan failed main bearing) came on after the truck was inoperable.
